Hello everyone.

Well I'm sort of new to this forum, and I'm posting here because it does concern speakers.

I've been into HT for about 6 years, an concider myself intermediate in knowledge, I guess.

I say a big "Thank You" to all here, because I stumbled on this board a few months back, which led me to audition the rti70s. It only took about a 1/2 hour of listening to Nine Inch Nails: Pretty Hate Machine, and some Zepplin, comparing the rti70s to Infinity and Klipsch, and I walked out with the rti70s for $299/ea, and very very happy once I got them home. And another big "Thank You" for the info about the FXi30s cheap price, which I picked up last week for $78/ea with pricematch. The old surrounds, rtFXs (remember those?!) are now the rear surrounds of a 4.1 for my computer. My HT system now sounds, IMO, very sweet. Of course I'm already thinking of what could be next :(

**
Below is some quick info of myself.
**
Quick background, I'm in southern Wisconsin, north of Madison 1/2 hour. I work as a programmer for the state (hate programming), and previously was in the Air Force for 9 years as an aircraft crewchief on the KC-135(A)(E)(R)(R/T) (miss it).
Married 7 years, no kids (don't have time for them.....yet). I game online, mainly BF1942 and AOM. That's about it.

Welcome. I see you had Klipsch on your short list. You know, back about 11 years ago, I bought a set of Spica TC50 speakers along with the matching set Kinergetics subwoofers (passive), amp (dedicated for the subs), and lead shot filled stands that were specifically designed for the Spica TC50s to go along with my Adcom GTP 400 tuner/preamp and GFA 535 power amp combo (Also had an Adcom 575 cd player then). The Spica/Kinergetics combo was supposed to be "audiophile approved" with a very high rating/recomendation from Stereophile magazine. You know what, after I got them home, I eventually grew over time to absolutely hate them! Luckily, I was able to sell them and at least get my money back out of them. I mostly listen to hard rock/heavy metal which normally consist of only bass, drums, and a couple of guitars at most (along with vocals of course), and that just wasn't the Spica's strong suit. Took that money I got from them and compared a set of Klipsch Epic series CF3 to some Def Techs (whose model # I can't recall, I think it might have been either BP8 or BP10, or something like that), and fell in love with the big Klipschs, so they went home with me. They were so efficient (102 or 103 DB) that my little Adcom amp could drive them louder than 40 ****. I don't know what happened, but as time went on, I got to where I just started to dislike the Klipsch's sound too. It got to the point that they were grinding and grating on my nerves, and would start to give me listening fatigue within an hour. I just couldn't take them anymore. That's one thing with Polks that probably will never happen.
    Congrats!

    Wisconsin, huh?

Quite a few years ago now there was a love triangle in the Wisconsin news.. one woman tried to kill another woman over a man. The would-be murderess ALSO happened to be the state Dairy Princess.... so the state slogan for awhile was (to us Iowans, that is)...

Wisconsin.. if the cholesterol doesn't kill you, the Dairy Princess will.

Like you, when I bought my first "real" speakers back in late 1989, chose between Polk, Paradigm and Klipsch. Chose the Polks, of course.

Welcome to the forum, glad it has been a positive experience for you ....so far ;)

Forget the kids, you have stereo stuff to buy! Drop some more particulars about your HT system...brand, model, etc.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Congrats!

Thanks. It's not that I dislike Klipsch, it's just that I feel they give off a sound that is aquired. And I've never aquired it, for HT.

Or, it could be a sub-conscience dislike due to the next door neighbor I had while living in a dorm, while in the military. He had these gigantic Klipsch speakers (about the size of one of those roll around tool boxes, usually kept in a garage), that he got while stationed in Japan. Every new person he met, he just had to show off his surround sound using those speakers and the "Lion King" laserdisc.

My cs400i center is what started me rolling to an all Polk setup. I auditioned the cs400i against the Infinity Ilc36(?) which didn't seem to have the center bass, and against a big Klipsch center which just seemed muddy compared to Polk.

I did get a pair of Klipsch Quintets new off Ebay for $50 (just before the cs400i) and planned to use them as rears. They never made it that far, as I picked up a used set of Polk rtFX rears at CC (which since were replaced by the FXi30s). I have the Quintets as front speakers and the rtFXs as rears for my main computer now. In that sense, the Klipsch are very nice, as they sound decent and don't take up a lot of room like large bookshelf speakers.

I wish Polk made a speaker comparable in size to the Quintets, but still had that sweet Polk sound. Then my computer fronts would also probably be upgraded.

LOL, that's great! I heard a rumor about her before, but never heard that saying, that's hilarious.

Our saying for Iowans, which my grandfather taught me, is: if we ever see a car driving slower than normal, before the license plate can be seen, we say "must be from Iowa". LOL. I've heard that here in Wisonsin and up in Minnesota. LOL, all in good fun of course.

Yes we do! Although I'm outgrowing the standard Miller, Old Style, Pabst, etc. and acquiring more of a taste for stronger micro-brewed and foreign/German beers. ** Anyone visting the Madison area, look me up. I know a few locations that serve the good stuff (beer) that will have you polka dancing within an hour (and no, I do not like polka normally).
