Have to admit I didn't know the name and so did not pay attention to the above at first read. But on the way home from a Christmas Party last night, XM's Deep Tracks spun "Cliffs of Dover"... a tune I have known for a long time. Having now put 2 and 2 together (again for the first time) I've gotten kind of an early Christmas present... a new addition to my buy list.

You won't be dissapointed. Since you live in Texas, you should have a very easy time of seeing Eric Johnson in concert as he lives in Texas as well and plays there a lot. I very highly recommend seeing him in concert. When he uses his 100 Watt Marshall stack and his careful choice of components and even down to the wiring, power and setup; he gets tones that are to die for. I saw Johnson in 1991 in Fresno, Califorina for the Ah Via Musicom tour and it was absolutely the best concert I have seen (one of the loudest too:wink:). Let us know what you think of the album.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Ditto what Greg said. I saw him in 1991 at the Center Stage in Atlanta. That was a great venue, it housed maybe 1500 and had great accoustics. It's a shame it's no longer running. Anyways as Greg said, it was a great show. Tour2ma, you're in for a real treat! As good as Cliffs of Dover is, there are many songs on that album that are far better IMHO. There are many, many things that makes EJ great, but his versatility is one of his greatest strengths. You'll hear this in force listening to Ah Via Musicom. BTW, EJ is my second favorite guitarist of all time right behind fellow Austin, TX guitarist and legend SRV. EJ and SRV were actually good friends.

So many good ones listed here!

If I were answering my favorite album while I was in the decade, I would have certainly said one by 311. which one wouldve depended on my mood. grassroots and the self titled album were in heavy rotation along with anything by Sublime. But all that was my Jr High/HS years. I would find it pretty difficult to choose one now. Perhaps Stone Temple Pilots - , Radiohead - OK Computer, or Weezer - the "blue album" (self titled)

So it seems... Looks like he's doing a small venue tour in 2012.

So far he's only posted January dates ( http://www.ericjohnson.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=2 ). There are multiple House of Blues and theater gigs listed starting NE thru the mid-west to the West Coast. But seems to turn home at month's end.

Looks like the guy is a serious road warrior... kinda part of the job description.

    Thanks all...
    More later,

Couple. The 90's had little to nothing main stream for me to listen to, let alone worth buying except Paul Simon and The Rhythm of the Saints Oct 1990 or 1996 Trailer Park by Beth Orton.

Pearl Jam LIVE. 1995 San Jose State Stadium. This was the make up show that was preformed on Oct 27,1995 after Eddie got sick on stage during the June show in San Francisco Calif. This for me was the best concert I have ever been to and 3 months later either KSJO or KOME released the 2 CD recording from the sound mix in limited numbers I was able to get 2 copies. Nothing can top this for me!!!!!!

Another good thing about lists like this is the opportunity to go back and listen again. Of course the 90's started nearly 22 years ago and we were all different. Myself, I was working hard and didn't feel any particular need to listen to music. The radio where I was, was talk radio and the people I ran with didn't have any level of music appreciation. It simply wasn't a factor in daily life and thats the way it was.

Today I have a much better understanding and of course more time to enjoy things like music. It's too cynical to sit back and label any period of time in music as good or bad I guess, it's just too wide a field and there is something of interest for most everyone. The only real complaint I currently have is the rise and acceptance of hate music.

I won't accept a world with the urban ghetto hate and mistreatment stuff is played to me; would anyone with a choice do it? I hope not and its not getting better just a slicker way to their messages. And I've found 'Hip-Hop' is another way to the say the same things from the lyrics I've listen too.

Even TV award shows now play this rubbish as main-stream. The supporters of this stuff will put up walls and call it west coast or east coast and kill each other over it. Music is not to die for my friends. No hate mail please(don't prove my point), its just my opinion and I get one too.

Music is an art and a tool to express ones life experiences and visions of how they view the world, space, economy, government, and religion among many other things. I find it quite odd you only point out ghetto hate, hate has been in music since the beginning you can find it in classical music, country music, opera, you name it it's there. Do you really listen and feel it? Have you ever listened to jagged little pill? What a great emotional album coming straight from her heart. Some of the best albums out there are when the artist is true to them selfs of how they really feel. Money IMO ruins most follow up albums and yes some of the best ones come out of the ghetto, and most of all they have an opinion as well.

To judge their life style when you don't have a clue what they have to do everyday to survive is being very closed minded. Black Sabbath came from some of the poorest of life styles their music was raw and pure for it and most of all honest..

IMO your statement is borderline prejudice

I did ask a near impossible question for sure. Its funny to see what people have to say. There is also a large age gap in our group causing an intresting dynamic. Since in 1990 I was 4. However I do still enjoy 90's the best. Matchbox, googoo dolls and a little 3eb.

Well, I was 22 in 1990 and had my first child. All I did back then besides work was listen to music. I set aside any extra $$ I could to buy new cd's.

Okay... so now Hip Hop is a music of "hate"?? Do some of you even listen to any of the music you speak so vehemently about? Do you realize how unbelievably uninformed you come off as being when you make such ridiculous statements? Speaking of which... recent R'R HOF inductee Grand Master Flash's most notable cut The Message was a scathing indictment of such a world-view by simply putting a mirror up to it. This tradition has continued with countless Hip Hop artists throughout the years.

To appeal to some West Coast/East Coast feud that has been in the grave for almost twenty years (and never lasted that long to begin with and mostly media-fueled) is laughable. Please do yourself a favor and explore a topic a bit more thorougly before attempting to speak so definitively on something you obviously know so little about.

I can't believe I even wasted the time responding to such drivel. "Urban Ghetto Hate"? Please. I guess there's no such thing as "Rural Country Hate"???
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

The 90's had good music ?? Crap, must have missed it. The last 30 years hasn't produced enough good music by any one artist, on any one album/cd that made me want to rush out and buy it. There were a few exceptions, very few.
Just couldn't see shelling out for a whole cd for one song I liked, though the wife did it constantly and drove me nuts.
As far as hiphop/rap goes, Run DMC was it, then it went downhill from there.

But my 1 pick for the 90's has to be Hell Freezes Over. Hootie & the Blowfish Cracked Rear View (1994) was also in heavy rotation.

If there is just one, its Massive Attack - Mezzanine.

    http://www.amazon.com/Mezzanine-Massive-Attack/dp/B000006045

Such an amazing example of Trip Hop style. I still listen to on a regular basis, ranks up there with some the best albums ever.

If it was top two, the other choice would be Prodigy's Fat of the Land. Also still in regular rotation for me.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
