Anyone ever hook up 2 seperate lines to a single phone jack??

Is it best to buy one of those 2 line phone adapters or get a dual jack and wire it myself using the red and green wires for line1 and yellow and black for line2?

The telco standard wiring when putting two lines in is as you quoted, red-green for pair 1 and yellow-black for pair 2.

If you are trying to get the lines to a location already wired with typical dual pair wire, then certainly no reason to use both pair to get to an area. The two to one splitter you mentioned is typically used to get a dual line split out to a regular single line phone. An alternate would be to split the wire apart and feed one jack plate with one of the lines and another plate with the second line. You could terminate both in the first plate and just add a jumper over to the second one too.

Personally, I'd avoid those dual line break out adapters if visable or in a location where the lines might get pulled on much. Labeling for someone else could enter what you think is the clearer way too.

How you wire out is really up to you and what exists already or you want to do.
