Newbie question here. I just recently purchased the Onkyo C-S5VL. It is my first SACD capable player and I've been itchin to try it out. Where are the best places to buy SACDs at reasonable prices? Any suggestions?

    What do you consider reasonable?

Sorry, I meant are there any places that typical have good prices? That is, relative to other stores selling the same SACDs.

There's not really a cheap place to buy them, just have to shop around. Yourmusic used to have several discs at the regular CD price of $5.99, but I haven't been a member there in some time so don't know what they have now.

Looks like their prices were too cheap. They are no longer open

I don't have any specific price in mind. I just thought the same way newegg is a great place for some of Polk's speakers, there would be some online stores that offer good prices on SACDs. Maybe the market is too small to support that kind of retailer.

I use this site to see what is available from Amazon and the price differences between the different countires. It is not perfrect but gives a good idea.

Type in title or artist and you will get a price breakdown on the right side and also some reviews from users. You can join as well.

If you don't mind pre-owned, amazon. Just be careful and ask the vendor (s) to confirm it's SACD format before buying. I scored a bunch of titles on the cheap buying used.

exactly.. a lot of Ebay for instance auctions claim they are selling SACD's, and the seller honestly doesn't even know.. so buyer beware.

cheap and SACD rarely go in the same sentence.. it's an oxymoron

also not sure where you live or what your musical tastes run, but if you have a Half price books near you i would check out their classical music selection. Lately they have had Pentatone SACDS which are usually well recorded classical music performances. Also some Fry's Electronic stores have SACD CD sections as well.

Thanks for the advice. I had already looked on Amazon. but will check out the other suggestions. And thanks for the heads up regarding sellers claiming that the CD is SACD. Really surprised that there aren't more small scale niche stores.

I used to buy them from Newbury Comics in Amazon's Marketplace, but they don't seem to have many of them right now.

If you're into classical music, get all the "Living Stereo" SACD you can....inexpensive (around $10.00/each) and good sound quality.

Don't know where you live but Newbury Comix in Massachusetts has a lot of them cheaper than they sell them on Amazon. I got quite a few for $5. Mostly classical and jazz, with some blues. I got Sting - Sacred Love from there recently for $10. Next choice is Amazon for me.

I guess I now have a reason to look for used book/Cd stores. Never bothered before.
    Thanks again for the suggestions.

    Thanks for the link...

As for other countries in general... yup. Especially don't overlook Amazon.co.uk. Can find stuff that's OOP here as well as Euro-versions you may prefer. International Media shipping can be surprisingly reasonable to boot.
