SurroundBar 500 Component Home Theater (CHT) - what's the deal with this product?

Anyone have any idea what's going on with this 'new' product?

It was announced last year, but is never available online or even at Polk Direct (although it is listed as an active item)? From what I can gather, only a handful have ever shipped.

There is very little information available on this product anywhere.

Seems odd - I am wondering if there were some issues with engineering of production that has caused such a delay.

Looks like its similar to the DT Mythos XTR-SSA5 / SS-50 (same parent company).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
-Steve

Not sure what happend to that product either, however if your looking at getting a soundbar the mythos isnt a bad way to go. I love my polks but I dont care for their mini speakers. I bought a set of the TL350's and shipped them back 2 day s latter because they just disapointed me. The mythos just go so much lower. Take a look at the Golden ear super sats as well. Really just depends if your willing to push a real amp into them instead of a built in one.

The new component Surroundbars (500 and 400) just popped on on the Polk site. From what i heard, they will be available Jan.

The drivers for these units are a far departure for Polk in that they are aluminium domed. That's not a normal Polk avenue so it's going to be interesting to see how they do in the market. It sound awesome but I wish it was paired out of the box with a subwoofer.

As far as VS the Mythos comment, they don't go uber deep either nor do the Golden Ear versions. There's some huge gravitas given when it comes to spec's on both of those brands. Just because it sweeps to that freq doesn't mean it works in any meaningful way at it. We also have to keep them similar in respect to size since DT has a broader range of this than Polk does. However, if they sound better to you, then that's all that matters.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Thanks to all who replied - Its a tossup at this point between the DT Mythos SSA-50, Mythos XTR-SSA5, or the Polk CHT 500. No room for separates - so its a sound bar and a sub. My receiver/amp is a Yamaha AVR-3010 and video is a 65" Panny VT30 plasma. Ill keep an eye out and let everyone know what I decide to get, availability and a review in case anyone else is looking.

    Cheers
