Ok so I received my Dared SL-2000A pre-amp and matching VP-20 mono blocks today!
The previous owner hated the stock Chinese tubes and "upgraded" them all. I'm a tube n00b and now I need help really identifying what tubes these have so I can replace them to get the sound I want.
So for the SL-2000A I have :
5Z4P = "Sovtek" KT-66 "PASS"
12AT7 = in "plain" white boxes. One says Raytheon 12AU7A on the end in hand writing. The other just has Germany written on it. I believe one of the tubes has writing on it but I'd have to get a closer view of it. It did say "JAN" on it which is a milspec tube right ?
For the VP-20 I have :
6L6GC = Sovtek KT-66 "PASS" (1 pair only)
6L6 = "JJ Electronics" "PASS" says "Made in Slovak Republic"
12AU7 = "ECG Electronics TUBE / Philips ECG" Says "6GH8A" on the end of the boxes.
12AX7 = in plain white boxes with nothing but "Germany" hand written on them
Ok so I'm sure you can tell I'm pretty clueless so any real help would be amazing. I've listened to them and they sound good. Very detailed. However, the mids seem VERY "in your face" and while I love good midrange, yikes. The highs seem decent. Maybe a bit harsh.
I DO NOT like bright music at all. I like good bass, nice mids and soft, detailed highs.
I can get further info. off of the tubes themselves if required for proper identification.
Please help!

You and I have been PM'ing but I see in this post you listed the Dared SL2000A as having a Raytheon 12AU7, but in your PM to me you state 12AT7. You can't use a 12AU7 in the Dared SL2000A pre-amp. The rest we have already discussed.

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul!
