So I have a pair of rta 12s that I have not used for some time. I hooked them up and one driver is not working and one sounds a little off. The ring is peeling off the outside of the one driver that sounds weird. The tweeters still sound great though. So I was wondering if anyone can ID the drivers and tweeters for me. They are still in nice cosmetic condition and i would like to get them into working order again.

I love the RTA-12's. Really great sounding speakers.

Polk used a handful of different drivers in the 12's, so the only way to know for sure is to pull the drivers out and look at the back. They will be marked MW-6XXX.

Once you find out what they are, you may be able to get replacements directly from Polk. Most people prefer finding original vintage drivers as opposed to the newer replacements which are slightly different.

Here's a couple original MW's in out flea market right now:

You'll have to check yours to see if they're the right ones. They also come up on ebay regularly.

Good luck gettin' the RTA's back up to snuff! Let us know how it goes!

So I called polk customer service. They said the original rta12 used mw6500's. All that is available is a replacement mw6503 for 48 each shipped. I have only 2 drivers out, I would prefer to replace the two mw6500s than buy 4 mw6503s. I cant afford to put 200 bucks into these right now. Does anyone have a pair of mw6500s for sale?
