SVS Keep Dreaming

This weekend I had two guys come over with thier SVS's, the PB2-Plus and the CS Plus, for a Home Theater meet. We demoed them aganist my Servo 15 going through a few different movies like True Lies and checking out a bunch of music. Test after test, the SVS could not keep up with the Servo 15. My sub not only played lower, cleaner and more powerful then the SVS subs but when put through the test of some old school hip house music like DJ Rob Bass and DJ Easy Rocks, It takes two, the Servo blew the doors off the SVS with much, much more raw power. One of the SVS owners is ready to send thier sub back for a Servo. The other guy wants to upgrade. For SVS to say they can beat subs costing 3 times there cost, I say not this time. The Servo is close in thier price range and they bearly begin to even come close to it. Even tech wise, the Servo is more stacked. Granted SVS are making some very good subs, I was surprised in the way they played very good, just not good enough. Thier subs look cool and they make some that will kill my Servo but not these 2, in the same price range. We ran them off the sub output with it set at 80hz all other speakers were set too small.

Might I ask, when you ran these subwoofers, did you move yours out of its spot, then moved the SVS in its place? I am sure you calibrated your system for the best bass where it was positioned right? To get the results that could match right? You are sure you ran the SPL Meter after each move?
Lets hear what you did and didn't do...Great post, interesting findings. Something just isn't adding up here.
Pb2+ vs a Servo, isn't that like double the power, double the woofer, double the enclosure?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I am a Paradigm man myself, but when SVS says that they can beat subs 2-3 times their price, they probably weren't talking about Paradigm. The Servo 15 is very highly regarded and is probably pretty even with pb2+. Did you take any measurements with an SPL meter and a test disc? Or try different positions as Sid mentioned so we can get a better idea of how these were tested. I am considering these two subs, as well as the pw2200 and pb2 isd over the next year and would appreciate any extra info. Thanks.Graham

Ok, I did move my sub out of it's spot and put the SVS one at a time in the same spot using the sub just like if it was part of my system, only one sub on at a time. In these Sub's we went for price range, not what the sub is made up of, to see what $1000 could get you or right around a $1000. On the meter, the Servo dropped down past 18, it even picked up some readings at 15. The SVS sub's went down to 20, but that's about it. I will have to ask this guy to come here and post the readings because I really don't know that much about that stuff. All I do know is that the Servo played alot lower. We did not move them around the room just in and out of that spot. The Servo never even broke a sweat so to say. If you want to see what your sub is made of, try some old school Chicago Hip House music, it's all bass, thunderous bass. This was not an all out test, just a couple of guys trying out different stuff, comparing sub versus sub with our favorite movies and music. But, I do believe the SVS claim that they can beat subs twice the price of thier's is false. I would love to see a pro do some testing between the same price range subs from SVS and Paradigm, the Servo 15 and thier new Servo.

NVM, just read it
Did yall plug the ports?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
NVM, just read it
Did yall plug the ports?
NVM??????????????????????
we did not do any pluging. -
NVM - is Nevermind
That explain why it didn't hit low! THe thing is tuned for like 25hz or 22hz DUH! You plug 2 ports it can hit down to 16hz!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLO!!!!!!!!!!!!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
The Servo hit that low with no plugging can you imagine how low with plugging? Just goes to show the Servo can kick the SVS sub's **** with out even trying.

OMG, Im surrounded! Someone call the hospital!
Im done with this thread.....I'll leave it to good ol Doc.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
So your saying I can't buy a SVS and right out of the box expect it to hit low, I have to plug ports and screw around with it, that sucks don't "YA" think? YA can buy a Servo and get that low with hardly doing anything.

Sorry to be a smart@$$ here....
Single Driver, Closed Loop Servo Subwoofer System in sealed enclosure with built-in power amplifier
Your subwoofer sonny...has no port
I'm saying with plugged ports that SVS will rock your Servo's enclosure I think! hahahhhahah!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I'm just **** with YA Sid. You know alot about this stuff so I give you your props.
-
All cool over here man.
I would tell your buddies to bring that sucker back here and plug some ports and do it again. The accuracy will raise, the sub will exstend farther. It won't play QUITE as loud....- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Can't you tell when someone is **** with you? All in fun, but really I would love to see some real testing on these subs.
-
Nope, I've had a long slow day......lol
I would do it again, most definetely- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
The PB2+ comes with plugs for the ports. If you like deep extension at the sacrifice of dBs, you should plug one or two ports as Sid says. At about 25 Hz and above with none of the three ports plugged the PB2+ should put out serious dBs with 900W and two tc12 drivers, but at the sacrifice of the low freq extension. I am sure that Doc will have something to say about this even though he holds the 15 in high regard.Graham

If I owned the PB2+ or any PB2...I would plug atleast one port...maybe not two, but one- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

The svs pb2+ comes with plugs because it was meant to have plugs, Its tunable thus more versatile.... able to change the tune for the material in use... if you didnt plug the ports as nessasary then it will not work as SVS intended..MY HT RIG:

Being that thier the "Bass Authority", why are they selling thier subs unplugged, is there a reason why you would want to run them unplugged and then plug them when you want to go low? Seems to me the way the Servo is built is much better, great sub- goes low with out all the hassle. Again, just my opinion
-
Red,
you are missing this. THe SVS is MUCH more versatile! Unplugged, it will hit LOUDER (say for music, general listening where most music is above 30hz), and plug for movies, where stuff travels below 20hz. It will do much more damage than your Servo can imagine. Has more options, most definetely. Doc basically summed it up in the above link.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Sealed subs eat more watts than ported subs for the same size generally. If you are listening to music that doesn't have infrasonic info then you want all 3 ports. If watching LOTR plug one or two.Graham
-
Dude you should work for M&K.
"Enclosed Subs eat more watts"
M&K hasn't learned this in 20 years. They have a dual 12 inch sub, sealed with only 125 watts!!!!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
-
M&K makes accurate subs. By far NOT loud. 125 watts could do it, but they use generic amps, nothing special. Not even clean watts...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

what do one of these servo 15 go for these days? i bet my sub will hang with the servo15. i am not saying it will beat it but hang. and for lessthan 1kcomplete. it kicks

By the way, I have heard many subwoofers. Not just my one....
Although Havn't heard the servo or svs. Have heard plenty ported and sealed subs.

Russ,
Let's confront some of the things you do shall we? On AIM and stuff man, you are a real cool guy. Your helpful, thoughtful, you do the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you do on this forum. Things you agree with online, you disagree with on here. Stop following the crowd on here and be somewhat different. Stop being an ****$. Act like you do on AIM or something. Stop acting like Russman. Act like Russ Gates.
I may be a idiot or whatever you think I am. But atleast Im the same idiot you see on here that you talk to online.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
