Hi,
I picked up this Sony player as a 'test' player for my vintage receivers, downloaded the manual, etc. What I was wondering is if anyone knows the year of manufacture. When were these things sold? Sony CDP XE400
Would be nice to know, would give me a 'window' into failure time. I can't complain because I paid $5 at a GW for this! Typical Sony. It reminds me of my first CDP which was a $200+ Sony years ago. Nothing special but good enough for my purposes. Vintage receivers tend to roll off the top end some which makes these older CDPs sound a little less harsh than they do on newer, better equipment!
Which is great for background listening!
Thanks!

SOny CDP XE 400 was first marketed 6/1/1996 and was only made for 6mo. in 1996.

Thanks pitdogg. I figured it was some time in the '90s. We'll see how long this goes. I bought my first Sony '89, it died in '98. I then bought a JVC CD changer which is still alive in my basement but lightly used!
So far this Sony is performing relatively well for its age?

caps are the biggest concern. Sony has in the past used very corrosive caps so get a look inside and under the board if you can.

I had one given to me about 9 years ago that was new in the box. It was a 400 ES model. I have used it alot and it has never broken. I also have two 200 disk Sony that are very old and also work fine. Considering all the moving parts that's amazing.
You can pick them up used for cheap.
