I am looking for a good matching sub woofer for my all-Polk home theater set up. My fronts are brand new Polk RTi A3book shelves; center channel speaker is a Polk CS 350; surrounds are Polk LS f/x speakers. The system is powered bya Denon AVR 2700 receiver. My room is 20 x 22 feet with half covered by a cathedral ceiling. I use half of it for my home theater, so one side is open and the cathedral ceiling is over the home theater area.

How much are you looking to spend? That is the biggest determining factor. Everybody could recomend $1K dollar subs but if your looking to spend $300 then it doesnt do much good.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
Amplifier: Carver A-753x 250 watts x 3
Fronts: Polk RTI A7 (modded by Trey VR3)
Center: CSI A4 (modded by Trey VR3)
Rear: FXI A4
Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi
TV: LG Infinia 50PX950 3D
Speaker Cable: AudioQuest Type 8
IC: AudioQuest Black Mamba II -
I would highly recommend the DSW Pro600. For that room and the impact you're looking for, it's a slam dunk. It also fits the pocket book just fine.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I will say this, as this is the dilemma I am in and why I signed up today, DO NOT SKIMP ON THIS! I have an older Polk setup I enjoy very much, Monitor 60'sF 30's R cs2, (I picked them up for next to nothing) but for subwoofers I use a 2 JBL subwoofers one claims 150 watts and one 80 watts. (I liked the way the 2nd sounded so there!) But I wish I would have invested wisely and purchased a high watt unit like the Outlaw 350watt 12". It sounds amazing, makes music and TV come to life and is in the $500 range. Maybe santa will bring me one.
On the lower end (I do not recommend this if you consider yourself an audiophile) my neighbor has a Dayton audio 240 watt subwoofer (you build it yourself took me 25 minutes and 2 beers) it has a 15" driver, it is not the most accurate, but better than my wimpy JBLs by leaps and bounds, for his heavy music and action flicks, well when we watched Transformers it sounded like they were walking through the house, so very cool for being low(er) end.
Moral of my long story, (hey it was my first post) don't be like me, I spent all my money on my Marantz, I should have kept my old Denon 6.1 (yeah I said it) and spent my money on a subwoofer, as the upgrade from Digital Coax to HDMI and from Denon to Marantz was not as rewarding as a great sub would have been (at least now I have Pre Amp outs though, one day maybe the easter bunny will bring me an AMP or 5)
