NAD Stereo Receiver - Model C740
NAD receivers have always stood out from the rest, as the engineers never compromised the quality of a receiver compared to that of separate components. The C740 is an excellent illustration of this philosophy as it is the combination of the C440 tuner and C340 amplifier combined in one chassis. The only difference is the slightly lower output power of the C740 compared to the C340, but otherwise the C740 is literally the sum of the separate components. NAD refers to this concept as "Building Block".
NAD takes a stance to the mindless "brochure power" approach which doesn't give a realistic indication of an amplifier's true capabilities. Instead, the ISC topology is a practical approach to enable an amplifier to easily deal with dynamics and difficult loads. More meaningful are the

Hey Eric,
I've been looking for a pre amp and this might fit the bill. I'm going to research it a little and try to talk myself into it. Let me know what you would need from me cash wise on top of the Polk 7's and we might be able to make both sides happy when we meet monday. (The wife won't be thrilled, but I've been planning on spending money on a pre anyways so.....). I'll try to talk to you tonight, and we can discuss location in Asheville and I might have some other gear you may be interested in.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -
After further research I was saddened to see it lacks a phono input. This makes it a no go for me unless someone has a decent phono pre for a very reasonable price I would not be able to justify both at this time. That is a beautiful piece and every review and mention I could find of it spoke highly indeed. Hope you have a good Thanksgiving, and try to touch base with me Friday or Saturday. I'm going to take my Carver amp to StereoMan in Asheville (96 Pearson Drive zip 28801) if you want to meet up there, that would work well for me.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

Sounds great and you are correct it is a great stereo...I'm only selling because I bought a newer version the C720BEE.
-
That looks super clean. I bet that 35wpc is a conservative rating.2 CHANNEL
Speaker - Klipsch Heresy II
Under construction -
Bump...up to 140 Watts into 2 ohms and up to 30 amps current capability!

I have owned that piece in an integrated. Nice sound, but can't be called on to push too much without sounding crappy. Listened to a 125wpc NAD AVR pushing a pair of 7ohm Vandersteen floorstanders tonight and the poor thing struggled. Not sure if the guy had his settings right or not, but was expecting a bit more.

Wow, not sure if you are expressing an interest in this NAD for sale, or what? Way to crap on a guy's for sale thread.
I own 5 or 6 NAD pieces and really like every one of them. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this at this price if I needed it. -
Yeah sorry, didn't mean it to come out that way. NAD makes a nice product. Was just surprised that the system didn't sound better. As far as my old integrated? Just making a comment on trying to push too much speaker with 35 watts. I was lead too believe that 35wpc NAD is like a 75wpc something else. Simply not the case.
That said, this receiver would power a set of small, efficient speakers wonderfully. -
Eric-
Call me today after lunch to confirm meeting in Asheville tomorrow 1pm to pick up the 7's. Thanks,
