Well i got a cold call from my cable service Bright house networks, formally Time warner cable.. this was Thursday, they claimed to just came out with a new digital cable box/dvr.. (IE: Tivo) i was intrigued and said ok for 9.95 fee a month i'll try it.. They still charge to have a "cable box" plus the monthly fee as Tivo would.. but after i switch back to broadband through them i get 3 bucks off that price, making it 7 bucks extra a month.. we got the box, it twice as big but fits on standard AV rack... silver face.. heavy and has analog, digital coax and vcr input/output and fire wire connectivity on the back... We already love it.. you can do everything a tivo can do plus... you can also record any recordings back to a vcr or im guessing a pc, being they have fire wire 1394 output.. so do any of you guys have this option through your cable company.. it plays the music channels and premium channels in dolby digital also.. as did my old box.. it can record whole episodes of shows in one setting.. which i think is pretty standard for a DVR.. non the less.. we never had one and its all cool to us.. paise live tv for up to 60 minutes,, instant replay of the last 7 seconds... rewind to the begining of a show even after you watched any portion or all of it.. I have verizon DSL now and it just sucks over the past 2 weeks.. so im dumoing it and going back to cable modem broadband,, i get the discount.. and im back in action.. Let me know what ya think of this and if their is anything i should know...

I have the option here in Cincy through Time Warner Cable. Haven't tried it yet though but I would like to.
I have been a Road Runner cable modem user through Time Warner for over 5 years and will never use any other Internet service because nothing is as fast and Road Runner is usually very reliable. My 7.1 setup consists of:
Denon 3803
Panasonic DVD
RTi70s front
CSi40 front center
RTi28s side surround
FXi30s back surround
PSW202 Subwoofer - Hey, it's my first sub!

Does your digital cable offer HBO-HD and Showtime-HD? If it does you should be able to use a Mits or JVC D-VHS recorder with the firewire port to archive movies.Best Regards, Cliff

I will get a DVR box from Time Warner as soon as they have one with HD built-in.
I've had my HD receiver from Time Warner for several months now and I'm still amazed at the picture. I wish Time Warner would move a little faster with picking up HD stations though... I can't wait for ESPN HD. -
I don't think it has HD, that's not what we got it for.. hence the thread title "DVR" I could care less about HD, my TV doesnt have the hookups for it anyway.. I assume you need composite/componite what ever.. to use it.. Not worth it to me to pay extra for a few channels in HD.. Not to mention a tech channel ZDTV now tech TV described how overratted the new HDtv was gonna be and their wouldnt be that much of a improvment for what they want for the HD t.v's... I'm just not ready to fork out the money, and if the new tv you buy requires it, you may even have to buy an external box for the HD.. tuner.. screw all that, we have full digial cable now as it is, and we have fiber optic cabel locally on another cable service if we so desire..
really the thread was to see who had DVR's or tivo's and what they thought of them, and for me to brag about what i had and how much we liked it, thats all.MY HT RIG:

actually, with Time Warner you don't have to pay extra for HD. Just a simple swap from my old digital receiver to the new HD one.
What I don't understand is why they don't have a DVR box with HD. The DVR boxes came out about the same time as the HD ones did... why not kill two birds with one stone?
Anyways, DVR seems really cool. I do watch TV but I'm not the type to let it rule my life. There is not ONE show on tv that I like enough to plan my life around it and make sure I'm home in front of the tv when it comes on, so it seems like DVR would be perfect for me. -
Well actually im the same way.. I don't have favorite shows i watch, my wife does.. I got it for her.. BUT we love to cook, and we record food network sometimes when something good is on to refer back later.. and i do like survivor.. so we set it to record the whole season, because we don't like to plan around shows.. however, we have 2 small kids and the fact is we do stay at home alot besides weekends.. so TV is a part of our lives somewhat. No parties till 2am, no going out every other night. LOL so it works great for us, no more VHS recording for shows.. pause when someone calls and watch the whole show over if need be, all that stuff is great!!MY HT RIG:

I've had DVR from time warner(San Antonio) about a year & like you I love it. I work at night missing most primetime shows. With the DVR, there nothing like morning coffee & NYPD Blue or Csi Miami. It really has change the way I watch tv. I watch Foodnetwork also(Bobby Flay rocks). Food Network also has an on-demand channel, great for when u miss any shows. This has totally replaced my vcr.TV-Samsung HLN5065W DLP
