I just evicted a young rattler from my yard.

The little fella must have been spending the night under a bush near my driveway, I had just gotten home and he found the warmth under my truck. The rest of the family got home about ten mins after me and daughter Rat informed me that there was a snake under my truck. I looked under the truck, and sure enough, it was a young western diamondback rattler.

I took a stick and flipped him out from under my truck, got our dust pan with a long handle on it, and swept him up. I walked him down to the end of the cul de sac and dumped him out in the natural desert where he belongs.

He can live, just not in my yard.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Lemme be the first to say thanks for letting the little fella live, too often they're killed when they didnt have to be.

I am all for letting animals live I have caught quite a few "visitors" and relocated them to their more natural habitat , but something found at my home that can kill me or my family members , I am sorry to say but I show no mercy at that time .

It's that time of year when snakes are on the move. They come close to streets and driveways to seek the heat from the asphault and concrete before their winter nap.

I never kill them either, there's no need. Set'm free I say. Most of the time they are really quite docile, but I have had a few that rattled and were mean as hell. Young rattlers are the most dangerous, as they haven't learned to regulate their venom, and every bite is a bite-to-kill. Adults will often cut you some slack and give a "warning" bite with very little venom.

Newbies to the desert often mistake Gopher snakes for rattlesnakes, due to the pattern and the fact that Gopher snakes "hiss" and will vibrate their tail in an effort to emulate a rattler. What a poser.
