i have an adcom gfa555...great amp...lotsa power...just thinking down the road i may want something of a different sonic variety..what would be a good amp to step to? i don't need more power..more storage maybe..budget under 600.
thanks

You would want a tube amp.
Parasounds tend to be a little more on the warm side and less bright than Adcoms. There's one option for you.____________________________________________________________

Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes
Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables
Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
Three 20 amp circuits. -
What is amp storage?
filter caps..capacitance, i thinks..i'm sure you know the rest;) -
beasts are beautific!
the pass amp, that is -
A tube amp provides lighting so you can see what's in the storage units.____________________________________________________________

Tubes!I got static in my head

I thought "storage" meant headroom.
-
you thought correctly, i guess...storage refers to the capacitance (sp?) value....for my adcom..the 4 big caps total 60,000..a big # like that and higher will give greater headroom...

Not necessarily, just like "bigger" horsepower doesn't always mean a faster car. It's all in how the output stage is designed. As a general blanket statement you could say that, but it's not really something that a buying decision should be made on.
My amp which is 30wpc has 120,000uF of capacitance in the form of (6) 10,000uF caps per channel. Whose amp has more headroom? Who knows, who cares really.
My point is don't look at a singular aspect of design and automatically assume it;s the same for every design. You certainly don't want wimpy capacitance for your power supply if it's a big amp, etc. But you have to look at the entire package and see if all the parts "add up".
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

Capitance is cool... don't forget current, too...
Parasound HCA-2200mkii:

- 100,000uF computer-grade capacitors in power supply
- Current Capacity
50 amperes continuous

You might be able to find one for 600, def. 700. The trick is finding one for sale.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's
Living Room: PC > Marantz AV-7703 > Emotiva XPA-5 > Sonus Faber Liuto Towers, Sonus Faber Liuto Center, Sonus Faber Liuto Bookshelves > Dual SVS PC12-Pluses
Office: Phone/Tablet > AudioEngine B1 > McIntosh D100 > Bryston 4B-ST > Polk Audio LSiM-703's -

Just like h9 said in his post, bigger isn't always better. My Carver TFM-42 was modded with a custom PCB housing multiple small caps instead of the 2 larger caps the originally came in the amp. The power is endless... I honestly couldn't imagine more?
