I received a surround sound system(5.1) from a buddy who left for the service and I am not sure what receiver to get.
I have a
-1 Polk audio CS1 A4 center speaker with a recommended amp power for 20-180w/channel
-4 Polk audio RTI4 high performance bookshelf speakers with a recommend amp power 20- 125w/channel
-1 Polk audio PSW 111 powered sub woofer.
I do not know much about audio/video and I am wondering if this system is compatible and what kind of receiver I need to power this system. Also if you need more specs please ask and i can get them. Any suggestions will be helpful. Much needed help!!!
Thanks
Jake

Welcome to Club Polk Jake. That's a great set of speakers to build your home theater around. As far as the receiver, we really need you know how much your willing to spend before we make any suggestions. Also, you should state what kind of sources you'll have and if you'll be using the receiver for HDMI passthroughs and the such. My best advice is to spend a little more now, and get a nicer unit so that the urge to upgrade wont rear it's ugly head right away.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

Iam willing to spend whatever it takes to get it going. My sources will be a PS3, A sony Blu Ray player, and a hd dvr directv (all HDMI) My tv is a 61 inch DLP samsung. As far as the HDMI passthrough I would like it where i just connect the hdmi from my sources to my receiver and then to my tv with out any additional cables.

If you're only interested in picking up a receiver now, I can highly recommend a Pioneer Elite. I just bought an SC-55 and it performs better than I imagined. Look into any of the SC series, they have fantastic amplifers and work really well with RTi speakers, not to mention having options that will allow you to build off of it for future upgrades. If you have a Best Buy nearby you can go into their Magnolia room to demo one. They should also have some higher end Onkyo, Denon and Marantz units you can compare it to. Good luck and have fun, this is the exciting part.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

I'll second the pioneer. If you want to save a few bucks , look at the sc-35, its last years model and going quite a bit cheaper.
