Ok. So , I think I might have a bit of a dilemma here. As shown above, I have an pioneer P860, and I also have now an Alpine PDX F6. The Pioneer is a high volt system, and is showing that is puts out 6.5 volts. The PDX has a max input of 4 Volt. So, is this a big issue in the mismatch? Should I get another amp that can handle 6.5 Volts, Will it clip the PDX amp???? Please help.

Thanks.

No, you're fine. Just adjust the gains properly and all will work as it should.

Ok. Good deal. Thanks Mac. I was just worried that with the mismatch I might clip the amp, or something. Will this affect the sound?

I would just turn the gain sensitivity down all the way on the pdx amp. Find out at what volume the pioneer puts out 4v and you should be good using that as your max volume setting.

Yes if you send the amp a higher voltage than it is set to receive then it will clip and sound bad.

So would I still clip the amp, if I had the gains on the amp as low as they can go?

    Thanks.

IDK specifics on P860 but most units will put out their rates Volts only at full volume. Most units will also clip when volume is "up there" so having your volume set on max is never a good thing (well, in most cases) to begin with.

As long as you amp's gian is low and volume on headunit doesn't go ALL the way up and stays there i'm sure u'll be fine.

Ok. Good deal. So, if I put the gain on the amp at max, then anytime I crank my volume up to loud, not max volume I will run the risk clipping the amp then right??

    Thanks.

The easiest way to set your gains is to turn the gain all the way down at the amp and set the volume on your hu to about 80% of max. Now raise your amp gains till the point you hear distortion and then back off a bit.

RMS volts on most hu's are measured at max volume, with everything boosted. My p-800 is rated at 5v. The couple of times I measured it at 55/63 I think I got something like 2.8v, of course this was with the eq cut a fair bit. I'm sure most hu's if not all would be in the same boat.
