There is a way to copy SACDs and use an external DAC

I received an email newsletter today, and one of the subjects is DSD DACs, and there is a link to a site that can rip SACDs to your computer. It turns out Sony screwed up with the original PS3, and somehow omitted the copy protection from reading SACDs. So, if you can get an old PS3 then along with this software you can both backup your SACDs to a hard drive, and play the files through a DSD DAC. Of course, these DSD DACs are not inexpensive, but for some I am sure they will fit the bill.

Personally, while it would be nice to have an SACD music server I am not sure it is worth the effort to me.

You don't actually even need a dsd dac if you want them for a computer based music server. Foobar2000 with a plugin designed for SACD will read the ripped ISO's and even convert them to flacs. It makes backing up of valuable SACD's possible.
