The woofer weighs to much for the scale to get the rest of the data so this will have to do for you hooligans!

If this is a No-No, please delete!

Thanks

If you have the speaker and the software to do it, I'm not sure why it would be wrong and honestly I think it's helpful.

I've measured LSi15's, but never saved the data for some reason...probably because I never intended to publicly post it. IIRC, they only dip down to 3ohms briefly and are easier to drive than LSi9's.

I should have specified, this is the driver from the subwoofer enclosure on the RT3000p - not the entire speaker... :)

Can you tell me how much real estate the subwoofer occupies? Inside cabinet volume for the stock sub? I looked at the specs for the "upgrade" sub for the 15's. And it's recommended cabinet size seems to be much smaller than the Lsi15 cabinet.

I no longer have a pair of LSi15's here.

The woofer section of the LSi15 does appear pretty small inside though.

Or maybe a little larger. Just because those are the recommended specs, doesn't mean the woofers wouldn't work in a different size cabinet with different tuning.

Where are you getting your specs from, their automotive enclosure recommendations? If so, that's a little different than the home environment.

He's convinced that there's no reason the upgraded db subwoofer should work in the LSi15 enclosure....although everyone who's done it noticed an improvement and is happy.

Face, I got it from a polk site. Yes I think it is in fact specs for a car enclosure.

Mark, you are way off base with that comment. Not sure what your deal there is. I am not one of the folks around here that does not listen when people talk! I simply asked that question, to you first and now here. Because I BOUGHT 2 original LSi15 woofers and have plans to use them in a DIY project.

    Hey Gary

If you are going to be into DIY like it seems, I would recommend picking up the WT3 kit from Parts Express. It is bad ****...

Gary, no offense, but I can see where Mark was coming from.

Pick up a Woofer Tester(can also measure caps and coils) and download the woofer box program here: http://audio.claub.net/software/jbabgy/jbagby.html You can easily play around with different cabinet sizes, tuning, alignments, and it gives some great info that WinISD doesn't show.

I have no deal or vested interest in any of it so not sure why you're so weirded out.

You mentioned this in a PM, in regards to the cabinet volume of the LSi15 vs the upgraded DB woofer....what's being lost in translation here aside from a cut and paste of your actual message? I don't know the actual cabinet Q or Vas but offered the fact it's a larger cavity than it may appear of which may or may not even be useful. I don't build speakers.

Your question is legitimate and I stated that it was a direct recommendation from Polk Engineering, regardless of the actual numbers being spot-on. I tend to not second guess, for the most part, the folks that actually built what we're talking about.

Ok, I am gonna say this one last time. It's not worth the argument. The specs on the new upgraded woofer are Vas .42 cubic feet/11.9 L. Now, just looking at pics of an LSi15, it's cabinet size seems a bit bigger. Do you not agree? THAT is why I asked the question I asked. It is not because I think the Polk engineers are full of $hit. It was assumed that I did not believe them when I never said anything to the contrary. I asked a simple question, thats it! I am not experienced speaker builder either, hence the question!

I know now not to ask direct DIY questions I guess.

You can put that woofer in whatever box you want as long as the tuning you desire is achieved... if you are using a port it is important to achieve low port turbulance while still allowing the port to load and be effective
