my setup:
Polk Monitor 60's - pair for 225
Polk Monitor 40's - pair for 120
Dayton 12in sub - sub for 150
polk cs20 center channel - center for 110
Pioneer VSX-821 receiver - for 200

With black friday around the corner I have been thinking of upgrading. One of my friends said he would buy my monitor 60's for 225. (so i break even). I have a $250 gift card to best buy. I went to best buy the other day and tested out the Klipsh KF-28 for front towers. They sounded great. On black friday the KF-28 will be for $220 for one wich is 50% off normal price(450 for one). I would essentially be replacing my 60's for the KF-28's for the price of my gift card and 60's. What do you guys think of the change?

Or do you guys think I should keep my current setup and opt for a receiver. I am confused on which one to get. I wont one that i can use for a long time and will not be lacking in power. I would prefer to get it from best buy just because i have $250 gift card. I am not opposed to looking at better deals for a receiver online somewhere. I could prob spend about $500

what do you guys think?
swap speakers?
get new receiver?
do both?

please help

$225 for used M60's is a great deal... for you. I'm selling a pair of M60's to a friend of mine for $120 later this week, and I'll be trying to get about $240 for the M70's I have.

I would keep the M60's for the surrounds. I've got them as surrounds now, and they are great for movies. I used to have M30's for the surrounds and they don't sound nearly as good. I know lots of folks like bookshelf speakers for surrounds, but they don't sound right to me when mixed with larger speakers.

Personally stick with what you got now speaker wise, and upgrade your AVR to something with a little more power and your speakers will sound better.

Look at accessories4less.com @ refurbished Onkyos. They are a manufacture authorized dealer so you get a 1 year warranty on them, and they are normally at a deep discount. You should be able to get a decent model (one w/ pre-outs) for your 500. Audyssey XT32 even. Then if you ever want more power you can just add an external amp rather than re-buy a whole new AVR.

Otherwise I would say look for a SC model Pioneer with the ICE amps. That should whet your whistle quite nicely, but I havent seen one in the price range your talking about yet.

If you like Denon (I personally wouldnt w/o a dedicated amp) Dakmart.com is also an authorized reseller of their gear.

My Onkyo came with a 2yr warranty instead of 1yr from a4l.com. I would search best buy to see if they have any clearance SC-35's sitting around. Mine came in just a hair over your budget...but I would have beat up a bum or two to get the extra funds (no, not really, but still).

I got an NR-807 for some stupid low amount (search the forum, bet you can find it!) and love it as well.

Thanks for the information guys. I think i am going to look for a new receiver for now with some more kick and have pre outs. I saw the woot deal today for the VSX - 1021 I currently have the 821 and im pretty sure they both dont have preouts and the only upgrade is having network ability. I'm looking for a receiver that I can upgrade and use for the next 7 or so years.

    Thanks for all the ideas
