Hello all,
New to this site and picking up my first set of 10a's tomorrow. One of them needs new mids and I am looking at a pair of MW 6503's out of 10b's as replacements. Would these work the same in my 10a's? any additional experience or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just found out that polk recommends 6503 to replace 6500. The stuck ones that I am replacing are supposedly 1988 vintage and look shiny, not plain paper. I'm omly guessing they are 6500's. So I guess it will work fine but if anyone has done this same swap I would appreciate hearing about the result. Thanks again! -
what you need to do is check them to see just what drivers are in there. Newer drivers are close BUT are NOT the same in sound characteristic as the older drivers. If you know for sure the MW65XX number you can watch ebay as they come up often.

I have to argue that the new drivers are darn near identical sounding to the originals if the numbers match. I haven't heard anyone ever say they didn't sound the same.

Thanks I can't wait to pick them up tomorrow and see exactly what they are. They do have the Peerless tweeters and both work, but the mids are stuck in one. sounds like the magnets came loose. Guess I'll find out soon enough. Anybody else with opinions or comments on this model that would care to comment?

Joe I'm going off my experience. My SDA1's had mw6600 stereo and mw6501 dimensional drivers and the older MW6501's sounded better than the new 6501. I'd go so far as to say the earlier 80's era drivers may of sounded different even between different runs of the same driver which would not be uncommon.
either way enjoy your new speakers and welcome to club Polk -
Old verses new is one thing but even the original drivers with different numberss DO NOT sound the same.. 6500s DO NOT sound like 6600s and 6600s do not sound like 6501s or 6503s etc It sounds like you have early 6500s with the gray paper on them They show up on ebay. I think there may be some on there now. I would stay original.

Got the speakers, the mids look like the pictures of 6500 that Ive seen. They are frozen extended and the magnets look fine, not shifted. Maybe the voice coils melted? Should I troubleshoot the Xover and if so how?

Never mind. Magnets are loose. Thanks.
