Well, in a couple hours folks, I will have a new Samsung at the helm.

It's 59in Plasma 7000 Series Smart TV. It will go with the Home Theater Mag "Top Pick" Samsung BD-D6700 Blu-ray 3D player.

I can wait to pick it up. They had it at the Best Buy Magnolia. They gave two pairs of glasses and a 3D Blu-Ray player. However, I already have the BD-6700. The package came with a Samsung BD-D5500 which will now sit in a dark closet with nothing to do.

I went Plasma for the first time. I did this hoping that the refresh rate of 600hHz would be better for movies than any of the 240Hz and 120Hz LCD's considering the tv would have to do 3D duty also.

I hope it turns out.

You might want to avoid that samsung bdp because they are supposed to be very noisy with the grinding disk sound

Well, I had mine for 3 weeks. No problems here. None of the reviews I heard had any problems either. D6700 is Home Theater Mags Top Pick of Blu-Ray players second to the Oppo's.

I have the extended warranty from Best Buy. If it is bad, give me another are something better.

Congrats on the new set. If you don't keep the BDP perhaps you can make some coin off of it.

Hey, just found out that this tv is one of CNET's top 5 TVs. And it's rated best overall.

I'm in the back of a truck holding this thing so it will not fall in rush hour traffic in St. Louis. The Best Buy dock work said lay it down. The Magnolia worker said never lay it down. So, I'm in the cold in the back of the truck right now.

I wouldn't lay it down. I'm pretty nervous anytime I buy a plasma. I also make sure they open the box before I leave and check for
    cracks.

It is a metal top. Is it aluminum? Not sure, but most likely. It is very small considering the sixe of other 3D Blu-ray units I've seen.

Yes, I have watched Thor on the Samsung BD-D6700 Blu-Ray player and played Resistance 3 on PS3 all in 3D. I watched thematch icing match in 3D also. The TV created the 3D effect. It wasn't much as far as the boxing match goes but on other Blu-ray material, it was a nice added touch.

Let me know if you notice any issues with your new Samsung Plasma. I'm loving mine (PN59D6500) but it does have one glaring issue that I'm rather annoyed by. There is a rising black phenomenon that takes me out of the immersion of a tv show or movie. I'll see a noticeable shift in the screens contrast. The screen almost seems to raise it's gamma level on its own for a second or two, and then it goes back to normal. All enhancements and energy saving settings are disabled, so it shouldn't be anything related to that.

It seems to be happening on all 2011 Samsung Plasma models, and there's a lot of users who notice this. Some people don't notice it, so I don't know if all sets are defective or not. It's really too bad, because other than that and a little buzzing, this TV has an AMAZING picture.

3D content is really cool. I have purchased certain PS3 games for the sole reason of trying out the 3D feature. Avatar is neat to play with, even though I don't care for the game much. I got Motorstorm Apocalypse just for the 3D. There's a lot of games in 3D at this point, and lots of new releases from here on will include it. Even XBOX 360 has jumped on the 3D bandwagon now.

I have not exsperinced any video quality problems period. There is the little buzzing, but my system I well turned up before I notice it during any viewing and it is not all the time.

I too am enjoying 3D gaming. The PS3 game Resistance 3 is awesome!

I will contact Samsung about this problem. There's lots of other people who have the same issue. If there are identical sets out there that aren't exhibiting this black rising issue, then I most definitely would like to try and get a replacement.

Hopefully I have a better experience than I did with LG earlier this year. The problem I am going to have it showing the tech the problem that I am having. The first time I noticed it was while watching Minority Report (the first blu-ray I played on this tv) and it only occurred twice throughout the movie. It's going to be tough to recreate this problem quickly.

On a positive note, I am enjoying the 3D a lot more than I thought I would. I initially purchased this tv simply for the amazing 2D picture quality it would give me. Now I seem to find myself finding any excuse to try out something new in 3D. I heard that the new Assassin's Creed has some great 3D implementation. I can't wait to try it out soon. In the meantime, I'm super engrossed in Skyrim for pc. It could be a while before I try another game.

Yeah, I'm enjoying 3D gaming more than watching movies in 3D. The PS3 really is a gem. It does so much.

As far as the plasma, it has some real deep blacks. Never thought I was missing anything till now.

A local, Samsung certified company brought me out an entire new TV on Friday. They replaced the panel, power supply, Y sustain board or whatever it's called... basically everything except the original TV's frame.

It did not fix my problem at all. The first thing I noticed is that this set appears brighter at the same settings I had the other TV set to. On my first one, I had to up the gamma by 1, and on the new set I leave gamma at default 0 setting, and things still appear a bit brighter than normal. I actually turned the cell lighting down from 18 to 10 as well. It seems strange to me that there could be this big of a difference on the same TV with a replacement panel.

Anyway, replacing the set did not fix my problem. I even found a game demo that shows this black rising issue to an extreme... Limbo. As soon as I start up Limbo, a black & white game, the issue screams at your retina, as if mocking you. It's as if the TV is constantly shifting from high to low contrasts while playing this game. This is an extreme case, whereas most of the time it's less subtle, but still annoying.

You have to view 3D on a projector for it to reach its full potential. I can understand why you hate it because I made the mistake of buying a 3D tv and its has a little shoe box 3D effect. However I went to best buy and saw 3D content running on a projector with a black diamond screen and it totally blew me away and it was a whole different animal .I cant wait to get my hands on one after the holidays are out of the way

Why? Have you had very much time with 3D? Most people who despise it have barely had enough time to make a decent judgement. I was one of those nonbelievers myself until I got this Samsung set and started using it more. The movies aren't what has impressed me much, but the gaming in 3D is worth it all on its own. Keep the 3D games coming, as they are in a whole different league.

On a side note, I did a factory reset on the new panel I received, and started from scratch. I believe I am back to where my last panel was as far as identical image quality and settings. I'm still getting brightness pops though, and I found a game that demonstrates this nonstop.... the demo for Limbo. This issue is something Samsung needs to address, but they seem to be refusing to even acknowledge that the problem exists.

I guess so you can get one less feature for the same amount of money. It is like the grumpy old man who is pissed off because times are changing, even though it has no affect on him. It's not like your forced to watch 3d. I am unhappy with it so I would like to take it away from everyone else who enjoys it.
