Southern college football thread!

I love Southern college football and the excitement of intense rivalries. The civil war is still fought each year in Montgomery Alabama between the Roll Tide and War Eagle. Most of the country just doesn't understand what that means, but in the South we have gentlemanly ways to be good sports about football trash talking. For me, being a die hard Florida State fan the only team I want to beat more than the Miami hurricanes is the Florida Gators. This Saturday my beloved FSU takes on one of the most vile teams in the country when we host the Miami Hurricanes in my hometown of Tallahassee. It'll be a good one.

I hope this is a start of a good place for college football chat even if you aren't from the South. The Blue Gray Classic game was always played in Montgomery on Christmas day and I went for many years.

When I'm not doing the tomahawk chop and war chant, I'm reminding everyone Roll Tide!

And I root for anyone playing the Gators no matter what state or conference the team is from.

Good thread. I always root for FSU, but will be rooting for y'all even more this Saturday. I just hope my Dawgs can get a win over Auburn this weekend. That one is really making me nervous, the road team and underdog (which in this case is Auburn) usually has a history of pulling the upset in this series. I'm hoping this is not the case this weekend.

I was raised in Georgia and spent four of the best years of my life in Athens at UGA. I bleed red and black. I also love the traditions and rivalries of the SEC. This is one of the few forums where I don't go by 'dawgfan'. Not sure where my mind was the day I signed up here...

I like Georgia too. I went to a few of the worlds largest cocktail parties in Jacksonville. My English bulldog dons a Georgia collar for that game. And I have chanted fmffm many times! Ha ha!

I'm extremely proud of my Dawgs victory over our oldest rival Auburn. I'm also happy about the congratulatory text messages I have received from my AU co-workers. Gracious losers are rare these days.

Wow. I totally was not expecting that! I figured Auburn would battle the Dawgs to the end. My AU buddies have always been gracious also and have shown a lot of class.

Same here. NOT what I expected at all. I thought it'd be a battle the entire 60 minutes.

help me out here, I noticed last week Alabama has 2 players wearing the same number, how is this allowed? just as weird to me, why would you as a player want to have the same number as somebody on the team?

and then tonight watching Alabama playing Mississippi State has 2 kickers, both wearing the number 40

seems like that would screw up a lot of stuff, also seems like it would be a rule violation of some sorts.

married to an Aubrn die hard fan, so I have grown to be a fan also, Auburn has been totally overrated this year, can't explain how Auburn has any wins this year, but LSU and Georgia games have shown how weak they are. Alabama will have fun this year, tearing them a new one in 2 weeks.

That being said, in SEC tradition, Auburn will upset Alabama somehow

Auburn is normally full of surprises except for today. That was a great game. I loved seeing Mark Richt's team enthusiasm.

My FSU beat the U, but it wasnt pretty. Always good to watch though.

For the penn state game both sided showed incredible class and sportsmanship.

The Gators recieved another beat down.

Today was a good day in college football.

Key West is a little sad though as two powerboat racers died. I didn't know the one person whom was the throttle man and owner of Big Thunder but I have known his wife Sue for over a dozen years. They stay with us each year. It was to be her husbands last race and it was.

Miami and Fsu fans are respectful of each other, but I can't say that about Gator fans. I send and recieve good game messages with my Miami fans. But I either get barraged with obnoxious messages or complete silence with my Gator friends.

Right, with Texas A&M and Missouri we seem to have lost our sense of direction. A&M seems like the stretch to me going too far West, but Missouri's being right above Arkansas does not challenge the boundary. I liked it better when we stopped at the edge of Mississippi and Arkansas was still attached to the SWC.

Did anyone see West Virginia clobber Clemson last night? I don't remember ever seeing anything like it. It makes you wonder how this voting stuff comes in to play. Clemson is actually a very good team. I bet West Virginia could have beat anyone last night.

I love tradition, but a playoff system for the top 25 may one day come to pass.
