Greetings.
I am a newbie who just orded the following Polk Audio from Crutchfield while taking advantage of an online offer discount of $300 towards a subwoofer. My configuration, including video components is as follows:
Polk Audio RTiA7 Floor-standing Speakers
Polk Audio CSiA6 Center Channel Speaker
Polk Audio DSW Pro550 wi Powered Sub
Polk Audio RC85i Pair 8" 2-Way In-Wall Speakers (2 Pairs for Side and Rear Surrounds)
Receiver: Onkyo TX NR708
Epson 8700UB Projector
Da-Lite/JKP 110" Screen.
Blue-Ray Player - TBD
My main objective is to watch movies, sports with some occassional concert watching/listening for this room. I decided that in my dedicated home Theater of about 13'x20' I preferred the better sound of the floor standing and external center channel that also would not result in loud sounds on the other side of the theater wall where I have a pool room. But I also was worried about cluttering up the walls elsewhere in a relatively narrow room and so I went with in-wall RC85is for side and back surrounds. BTW the RC85is are a great deal right now at $169 a pair and this provided me a near term approach towards building out my 7.1 system that does not break the bank. If later I decide these in-walls are not great, I can move them to other locations in the house. Here is the first and major question: The usual consensus on other threads is that surrounds are not that big a deal when it comes to timbre matching. My fronts and Center are Timbre matched. But as I never saw anyone attempting this type of combination of Floor Standing/External RTi's matched with -in-wall surrounds I am seeking input from someone more knowledgeable than me as to whether this is likely to work out well.
My receiver is THX capable, I decided not to make a big deal out of THX for now but if anyone has an opinion on whether I can utilize the THX capability in any way with the given configuration, let me know please.
Thanks much in advance!

Welcom to Club Polk!
That looks like a nice setup. Although the TCI series speakers are timbre matched for you RTia front speakers they should work fine. I run the speakers in my signature with in ceiling speakers of a different make and they work fine. As far as THX goes that is just a qualification the AVR goes through. To a lot of people, me included, it does not mean a whole lot. To be official "THX" you simply need to set all your speakers to small and set the crossover at 80Hz. If that receiver has an automatic setup I would run that, see what it sets everthing too, then listen to see if you like it and adjust if needed.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH

MADGSF,
Thanks so much for your insights. It is helpful to have some feedback. I am taking some things step by step and will probably be asking questions (perhaps starting a new thread) for such things as adding am AMP, whole house sound, what blue ray player, etc. I wired my house myself for whole house sound and now I need to learn such things as what sorts of amps, what configurations will work together and drive how many zones, etc. Thanks again!
