So I just picked up a pair of these at an estate sale. I just bought them because they were nice cabinets in great condition, and seemed well built, and said "a division of Altec" on the back. I cannot find much info at all about this specific model. Ive heard this model has the "sphericon tweeter", which some seem to like. Does anyone here have any experience with this specific model of University Sound speakers? Ive seen a couple posts on audiokarma and other sites about them, but no real info. Mainly just people like me looking for info, or people who dont know that are guessing. Ive looked for quite a while now and would really appreciate some info on these. What year they were produced, how much they sold for, opinions on sound, possible comparisons, etc.. I am also not very familiar with the University sound line of home audio speakers. I would also be interested in info on the company and what the more desirable models etcs are? I know they mainly did PA systems, I am only interested in the home audio speakers. Thanks.

actually that's a model I've never heard of. University made some very good drivers and loudspeaker systems, as well as some fairly mundane ones. They ultimately ended up merged with Electrovoice... thanks to Telex, many legacy docs of both companies are available online.

Another source for vintage University (and EV) info is www.hifilit.com

... and, of course, the other place worth a look is the mid-1960s through early 1960s general catalogs at www.radioshackcatalogs.com

I have had the same issue with these. I don't see anything about them other than people comparing them to Vintage EV and Altec.

University had a couple of real nice drivers that had a very open sound but I never heard of Cantada's.
