RTi A9 Crossover
Alright so I run a 2.2 setup. I have been trying to collect items needed to run REW and tinker with that. However, I have had some difficulty with trying to blend in my subs and for what crossover I want. For the record, I have 2 Velodyne VX-10 subs. These are 10" units with 100w RMS. Not the best by a long shot but works for now.
I began running the A9's at full range with the Plus option on the Pioneer enabled and the sub crossed @ 80hz. This was terrible until I hit the phase switch and changed both subs to 180 degrees phase then the bass was full, but perhaps boomy? I just didn't like some of the peak sounds I was getting whether that's cause by in room gain or a peak from the subs. When I dropped the crossover down to 50hz, I lost some mid bass slam from the sub.
Now I have my mains set to small crossed at 50hz with the phase back to 0 degrees on both subs. This has been very nice as the subs help fill in the low low end. Now I know that the woofers in the A9's are crossed internally @ 120hz. What i would ultimately like is a nice dual sub system that can blend in and HANDLE everything from a proper cross over and down and keep up with my mains. I've been eyeing up a pair of Epik Legends but that purchase wont happen for a while if ever as Epik doesn't ship to Canada no offer any support it seems which is a pain to be honest.
My room is odd but complements well as the bass is being utilized by room gain very well for source position with speakers and listening position. But until I run REW, I won't know what's happening.
The whole long short of this thread is to see or gain knowledge as I can;t find much out there about owners of A9's and what they are crossing them over at. I wish the A9's (This is probably due to where I can place them) has more mid bass slam from 50-80 hz. Blending my subs in when the mains are running full range is a nightmare. I don't even think I calibrated my subs properly with my SPL meter because every resource online is different on how to set them up and where to measure them and what db's etc etc. I calibrated mine from the LP to 75db's the same as mains, but christ do the subs over power everything, they seem to equal out at -7 to -6 db's, I run it at -2 to 0db's crossed @ 50hz now.

how good is your AVR? because from 50-80hz that you're asking. total of 6 7" woofers will require a lot of power to move them. not mentioning the power will be shared with the mids/tweeters.

Try setting the A9s to small and cross them over @80, let the subs handle the rest. I've had great results with my m70s with this setting.
In fact the monitors sound even better crossed @ 100hz for HT, and for music kind of depends on what you are listening to. The detail is simply amazing when you take away the lower frequencies.Living Room 7.1 HT Rig:

They are powered by a Carver amp, my Pio Elite is my Pro/Pro. I have NO issues with moving the drivers if I want to.Lietuvis91 wrote: »Try setting the A9s to small and cross them over @80, let the subs handle the rest. I've had great results with my m70s with this setting.

I just don't think it's very efficient to do that. with that setting you get 80-120hz through the woofers which isn't even a full octave and from what I read, that's poor. However, my A9's are audible down to 50hz, just my subs give more mid-bass slam. Thats why I'm waiting to read from A9 owners who have found the right balance.
I guess it's hard to know until I run REW to see what's happening in my room. For all I know, I could be hearing the RIGHT bass but think it's wrong. I've head to learn what music sounds like all over again since I got rid of my Bose setup.
