Food for thought, eh!
This might be eye-opening to some!..It should be a warning to those who propose more strict gun laws!
In WWII, Japan 's highest ranking naval officer was Isoruku Yamamoto. Although he was Japanese, and his loyalties were unquestionably with The Empire, he studied for many years in America, graduating from Harvard University. There is an oft-repeated (and sometimes disputed) quote attributed to him regarding the possibility of any nation taking a war to American soil:
"You cannot invade the mainland United States . There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."
Here is why he was correct:
America's Hunters. The World's Largest Army.
The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great, considering there were over 600,000 hunters that got permits this year.
Allow me to restate that number.
Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran ;more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to keep the deer population under control.
But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan 's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia , and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.
And that is just FOUR states.
The total population of registered hunters in America today ranges from 23 million to 43.7 million individuals. (Based on annual data provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.)
As long as the American Hunter retains his right to Bear Arms, America will forever be safe from foreign invasion of troops.
Hunting - it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.
Cheers! and good jerky!

Have you read the rules.............no gun talk allowed on this board.

Sorry, Hiney
Any way the mods can (or want to) move this to the POLKARMY for the 98% of us that don't have an issue?
I don't intentionally break rules...sometimes they just break on their own. hehe

This post doesn't break the rules. You don't have to own a gun to purchase a hunting permit.
I wonder how accurate this is. Couldn't find it on snopes.

FTR, I don't have an issue with arms talk at all, I was just pointing out the rules because I know there are some very sensitive people here when it comes to a topic like guns.

Statistics prove anything. The real question is how many hunters are shooting within the same square mile of area at the same time.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Small excerpt from WDNR website.
MADISON ? Good to very good hunting conditions on opening day gave way to misty-rainy weather on day two of the 2010 gun deer hunt. Hunters participating in the traditional November nine-day gun deer hunt registered a preliminary tally of 106,404 deer over the first two days of the hunt.
...and these are the ones that were successful and decided to report.
I bet the numbers aren't far off if at all.
Id research more in depth but I'm going HUNTING! and for you sensitive type...I'm going BOW HUNTING so I didn't break the rules ...again... by mentioning any type of gun or firearm .hehe

65,503 square miles. That is 9.15 guns/hunters in that given square mile. or 1 hunter/gun per every 69.9 acres...If my math is correct, it's been a long time since school lol.
But given that most deer rifles can shoot thousand+ yards, I would say that is pretty close proximity.

I think this is a fairly harmless post even considering the rules. I also saw, that it is posted over at the other forum. But don't you guys think, with all the 'heavy' weaponry that various first tier economic nations have that guns would be pretty useless against more modern Tech strikes? When you have Nukes and other capablities...I mean?

you do know that even though 600K might say they are hunting...most in the state of WI are too busy drinking beer back at the camp or eating cheese curds....
its just the way of life. Add cow tippin' in there and we got ourselves a saturday night! -
Don't forget all the fishing, shrimping, cargo, salvaging, and sailing boats etc that are loaded with weapons. That's not a bad semi-amphibious Navy. I know that this is a sensitive topic. Maybe we could replace the "G" word with "pun", "firearms" with "firecrackers", and "hunting" with "gathering".
just an idea.
You do have to be careful with people's sensitivities. There are folks who don't like to talk about eating animals, or drinking alcohol, or listening to crying babies, being too good looking and so on. I don't have a beef with anyone unless they have a beef with me. oops, I mean, I don't have grief with anyone unless they have grief with me. Oh darn, too morbid if someone just died. Uhm...I don't have a problem, darn it again with those people with problems! Just leave me alone and I'll leave you alone. Darn again, the loners might get all unlonely and form a group, then they'll really be unhappy.
I'm not political or religious, I could care less what others do but at some point we may not be able to describe or talk about anything. It is poor tactics to nuke the land you intended to conquer in to oblivion thereby rendering it and it's resources useless due to destruction and/or radiation.
At some point, you need boots on the ground. What the OP is suggesting is that due to the rights the 2nd amendment affords us, any enemy who would willfully try to attack us and conquer us is going to have to contend with that and it will likely be their day of reckoning. Given the numbers, you can't really dispute that.
But honestly, if it came to a nuke attack, the only one that could do real damage is Russia and they can't really do much since the military is a shambles. Everyone else might get one strike off with a single missile that might not even detonate on impact. But they'd better make their first and only chance count 'cause then Hell's Fury with an American flag taped to the side will rain down upon them from the heavens.
That is if our much more technically advanced military doesn't intercept and destroy the threat in the airspace from which the threat launched.
And don't think we can't do it either.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I think 9/11 has proven that if the US is ever attacked again, it will not be by massive troop invasions and the like. It will be done by sleeper cells/suicide bombers and it will not matter how many guns a "civil militia" may possess.
BTW, not anti-gun here, my family has hunted responsibly for several generations. Just today's reality.

ha! it could be worse. I knew people in high school that would go to a golf course that was next to a farmer's field and see who could hit one of the cows in the head with a golf ball. They often would get kicked out but they thought it was great fun. -
lol, I got kicked out of a few cow pastures myself, but I was collecting fungusamungous. I got wise after a farmer gave me a shaming lecture on how he was trying to make a living and the college kids were ruining his fences, disturbing the cows, leaving gates open, and littering items the cows would eat.
so...I started carrying a trash bag, wire and pliers. We mended fences, kept away from the cows, picked up trash etc. That way when I did get caught at least I was showing some good grace and was let go each time. But I had to leave my fungus collection, most of the time. I had a friend one time simply go up to the farmer's house and asked if we could go picking in his field, he said sure his kids did all the time just stay away from the cows.
