can somebody help me about this particular amp im looking at to power my SDA 2a. the amp is a behringer A500. ive been looking for an amp for my pair of SDA 2a's since my yamaha RX-a1000 is not specific for a 4 ohm speaker and im afraid if i'll turn up the volume loud it may get burned. i tried my yamaha on high volume and i heard the clipping sound on the tweeter. i dont want to damage my precious SDA speakers too.
i just want someone who's an expert on SDAs to take a look at the behringer a500 wether if its compatible with the speakers. and i want to connect the two speakers too using an improvised interconnect cable. i read from a forum somewhere that i should be careful using interconnect cables on certain kinds of amplifier for it might burn the amps too.
if i can't really put these speakers to good use, then i might as well get rid of 'em and buy a pair of RTi12s on ebay which is 8ohms and wouldnt be risky with my yamaha.
please help! im not good at electronics. i just want to enjoy beautiful sound in music and movies without comprimising my equipment and at a cheaper price too.

Do you listen closely listen to your favorite music in the dark while enjoying a cold one, or mostly yell over top of the pop music you play during parties while getting hammered?
What I'm driving at is the Behringer would have all of the subtlety and refinement needed to do the latter.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

What speakers did you try the Behringer on? -
The Audio Critic review from 2005:
http://theaudiocritic.com/plog/index.php?op=ViewArticle&articleId=22&blogId=1
Grossly over-rated power specs; actually put out 120 watts into 8 ohm, but stable into 4 ohm including capacitive and inductive loads.
I'm wondering if the factory has upgraded the amp since the review, they're now claiming 300 watts into 4 ohm; the review sample went 220 watts, but couldn't make rated distortion.
They say "Conceived and designed by BEHRINGER Germany". If they're ashamed of where it's actually built, or which nameless, faceless factory does the work...we can pretty much guess why. First Guess: "Made in China".
He could do worse...but I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. -
okay guys, almost all of the comments here are negative towards the behringer A500 amp. how about some suggestions on other amps that can handle the 4 ohms SDA 2a pretty well without spending too much? how about an emotiva UPA-2 for $299?

Most any common-ground NAD or Adcom and some Carvers would be a good start.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

I don't need to try clamydia to know I don't want it.
This is a typical review for the a500 (for any pro gear for that matter)

You can just read the "Conclusions" section at the bottom if you don't want to read the whole thing or look at the nice graphs.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

Having sold Behringer gear for years...
Stay away. lol- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Just get an adcom or an NAD that is common ground and you will be more than happy (just for starters).
that is your best bet at this point.
Good luck and welcome to the club! -
