What defines the difference between the Monitor 5A and 5B speakers? I know the 5A are the earlier model, but were there any real changes made on the 5B line. I own a set of 5Bs, but have been looking at a used set of 5As to add to my set.

The 5A used the MW-6500 and either the Peerless or SL1000 tweeter. The 5B uses the MW-6502 and the SL-2000 tweeter. There are also some XO differences. My 5A (1983) has Daycron fill behind the MW's and the PR's while the 5B (1984) only has it behind the MW's. Later 5B's did away with the tweeter fuse an went with polyswitches for protection. The cabinets are the same dimensions.
Sound wise, I like each for different reasons. My 5A has the Peerless tweeters and they live up to their reputation for smooth well balanced character, however, the 5B has it in the bass department.
I don't have specs for the 5A.
