This is for all the fans of Storage Wars. Did anyone catch the episode where Barry purchased the locker contents that had the vintage stereo equipment ? I know it was a re-run but I missed it the first time around. The gear included a Thorens turntable and a pair of vintage speakers from the 70's. I am not sure what brand of speakers they were. How accurate was the Thorens appraisal ?

The Thorens appraisal was a wee bit high, I was suffering heavy drool on that episode, I own a TD-125 MkII and while the stock arm the one on the show had is nice, put a SME 3009 on it like I've got and you'd be hard pressed to find a better rig for under a couple thou. I wish they'd shown more of the other gear he found.
I bet the guy just put a new belt and a sip of oil for the motor and it just sang as only a vintage Thorens suspened plinth, belt-drive can :cool:Thorens TD125MKII, SME3009,Shure V15/ Teac V-8000S, Denon DN-790R cass, Teac 3340 RtR decks, Onix CD2...Sumo Electra Plus pre>SAE A1001 amp>Martin Logan Summit's -
The speakers were Bozaks I believe and I don't remember the $ they gave for them at the appraisal2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

That was not Barry that found the equipment, it was Darrell Sheets. And hey, if some people want to pay for it, by all means. He was offered $1800 for the TT and speakers.

The Thorens table was high if it was used. But that table was in literal, mint condition. They cut the original packing tape on the box. Dude bought it and never opened it. Darrell was the first person to see that table since the guy at the factory sealed it.
The speakers were Bozaks. Run of the mill, end table sized garage sale specials. Nothing spectacular. I can't remember what model, they didn't give you a good look at them anyway. Never even popped off the grilles. They played them and they sounded OK but after being in storage (I think Darrel found a news paper that was dated 15-20 years prior?), they need to be gone through and cleaned. Drivers need to be checked as well as crossovers. Needed some help it seems. At best possible condition, $300 for the pair at most. At least that's what I would pay. The majority of the cost came from the Thorens.
Dude appraised them at like $2300 for the whole pile of stuff. Offered Darrel like $1700-$1800 on the spot. For a mint condition Thorens turntable, still in the packaging, he can easily get $2K for that from a collector alone. If he cleans the Bozaks up and gets rid of the mold and dust damage from storage he can probably pull in $200-$300 at least for them but if he sells that Thorens for at least $1800, the Bozaks are nothing but cake at that point anyway.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
