I have a fishing trip tomorrow that we've been planning for weeks and now we're in the 6-12" zone. I am not happy
The only bright side is maybe the snow will keep us home avoiding yet another stupid Halloween Party....SCORE!

But it's up in Lowell and nothing good ever happens in Lowell!!
I haven't even bought my snowblower yet!!
This is going to be a bad weekend.........
I haven't seen snow on Halloween since the late 90's. Cold+Snow = Less Kids...Double Score:exclaim: More candy for me.Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -

I'm in the 3-6" area on that map... Wunderground says 4-8"
Hasn't been cold long enough for it to stick around, though. The ground is nowhere near frozen... it was just raining steadily yesterday.Ludicrous gibs! -
We'll take it. We need any type of precipitation we can get.
Although, I do want my 80* weather back. Guess I'll have to wait til Tuesday.

The way they're talkin' about it on the radio, this storm could be evocative of the Halloween 1991 "no name storm"; that terrible Nor'easter memorialized as The Perfect Storm.
s'posed to be 8 inches in the I-495 belt Saturday night. Given the number of leaves on the trees, we could be lookin' at Armageddon by early Sunday morning. NEARC is s'posed to be Sunday morning in Westford. We'll see...
I'm effing thrilled. -
Oh great!...
On a bright note, i called the Mrs and gave her MY game plan for tomorrow night and she was cool with it. Looks like Lowell is out of the question!
Don't get me wrong, i loooove winter and snow, i'm just not ready for it in Oct. Maybe i can finally pull my brand new snowrake out of the box that there was a 3 week waiting period for last winter. Then the snow just turned off and i never got to use it.
Beer and Shoveling!!!....YES!!!!Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
Hehe! a chilly start for us in the Sonoran Desert...50's last night...movin' up to the upper 70's low 80's later, come play down here!!

snow rake... mine got heavy usage last year; I really should invest in a new one, too, but it's probably already too late to buy one locally :-)

You know what's the best part of shoveling snow? Your beer doesn't get warm like it does when you mow the grass. If you've got a big area to shovel, just stick a few in the snowbank... works as a handy cupholder, too... just watch where you throw the snow .Ludicrous gibs!

JEsus, I'm 31 years old, i can't believe I never thought of that.
I mean, not a great idea for "morning before work" shovels, but .... other times.... this is genius. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
When i started the "What snowblower should i buy" thread, i made it a point to ask about cup holders....
This is a much better idea

Just make sure you don't drink it on the sidewalk... in my town, that could get you cited for open container violation.Ludicrous gibs! -

This is why I live far enough outside of civilization to not have a sidewalk. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

Town Ordinance. "Peace and Good Order" subsection F. "drinking of intoxicating beverages"
"No person in any park or on any street or on any public area or private area not owned by the person involved in the borough shall have in his posession alcoholic beverages in open containers for consumption, nor shall any person drink alcoholic beverages at any time in any park, on any street, in any public area or on any private property not owned by the person or persons charged."
In most cases, you own the sidewalk (IE- I am responsible for keeping my sidewalk clear of snow, and I assume any costs of replacing damaged sections of sidewalk in front of my home). In this situation, I should be okay to drink on the sidewalk in front of my house. However, that doesn't always apply to everyone, especially if your home borders some public property. I'm sure that the borough police officers could argue otherwise.
Anyway... enough of that.
A heavy, wet snow, coupled with the fact that most of the trees still have some description of green leaves on them, means we could be in for a lot of downed branches and powerlines...Ludicrous gibs! -

So i'll update all you all about the NE.
It's cold, dark, trees are down everywhere, and scented candles should be banned!
The thermometer in the house this morning read a steamy 44 degrees while the outside was 28.
I only lost one tree and tops of others in the backyard. We had to take a ride last night to get a hot meal somewhere and had to dodge a few trees that had swallowed the road.
1/2 of Mass is without power, there's now a nice coating of ice on the roads, and we're told we might not see power until this weekend. The crap shoot is a street over from me has power so i get to look through the trees at :evil:
Haven't showered since since saturday morning
Lost power at 5pm Saturday night.................
All in all pretty $hitty. I'll let the others hit by the storm chime in if they can.

We got fairly hammered up near the intersection of I-495 and MA rte 2 :-(
Lots of trees and big branches down at and around our house. Corner of my shed was damaged, and my screen house took a direct hit from a very large oak branch. RIP, screen house.
Power's gone since 11:30 pm on Saturday; "worst case scenario: 4 days" to restoration, according to Nat'l Grid. I read that as "base case"... and maybe "best case" :-(
We've been lucky in previous storms at my house (e.g., the 2008 ice storm), so I guess we were due.
EDIT: For those of you keeping score at home on MA power out(r)ages:

It was a Balmy 51 degrees in the house this morning. Lost a bunch of branches and one tree. Every town in my area was without power until yesterday and only a couple have it back so far. Momma Nature is PO'd for sure.
I have to say 51 degree spring water doesn't make the nicest shower. Did I mention I have a Well? Man that will wake you up in the morning. My job better be happy I am in today. Who am I kidding, they are never happy I am in...
No power till Thursday is the JCP&L estimate right now. WOO HOO -
going to be back in the 80s tomorrow, where it should be

I've lived in Massachusetts for 12 years and this storm caused the greatest damage I have seen here. Trees and branches down everywhere - much worse than the ice storm 3 years ago. Some streets impassable. 640,000 people without electricity. We had no power from Saturday evening before 7 to Monday morning. No heat, no water for us (well water needs an electric pump). We went out to eat but so many people had the same idea and so many restaurants lacked power, it usually took 2 hours after you arrived before you could eat. We tried going to the mall but it was closed. Somehow that seemed like a disaster movie. What's next? Zombies?Front - Polk LSiM 705, Center - Polk LSiM 704c, Rear - Polk LSi 7

Still no power at my house; 47 degrees upstairs.
As of last night, though, we have a small generator thanks to a vacuum tube hifi buddy :-)
EDIT: FWIW, we're VERY close to you HHStuart - an abutting community :-) -
I'm sorry to hear it Mhardy!...our power came on at 8:30 Monday night.
Since the storm, i have been prompted to look into a couple different things. First, i need to get the chimney of my house inspected since the former owner (of 30 years) said he might have used it a dozen times. This way i'll at least be able to get a little heat into the house.
I need to take down a bunch of trees that i initially thought would never be a problem, not so much anymore. I just want peace of mind.
I am also looking into a small generator so those important items IE, fridge and maybe the furnace if need be. I have to throw away half of my fridge. The meats smell like funk!
99% of my family lives out in Western Mass and they are told possibly by Saturday that they will see power. Glad i moved east.
Zombies will not be showing up anytime soon.....i hope :cheesygrin:Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
Our power came back on at about 8 Wednesday night. The family room quickly warmed up to 64 and we felt hot :-P
Heck of a storm it was.
I now cannot say enough about the value of a small generator. The one we borrowed (a CL find Coleman with an 8 HP Techumseh engine; nothing special and quite bare-bones) is physically small, fairly light, easily portable, started easily and ran great - made all the difference in the world. I also cannot say enough about my friend Alan Kalf who kindly lent it to me after he got it running!
I'll be investing in one. -
Still no power in Pittstown NJ. Estimate was tonight new estimate is Saturday at the latest. What is ticking me off is the lack of power trucks in my area. I have seen one pickup and not a single boom yet. I understand they are doing there best but there best looks pretty shabby this time.
I am sure they are having issues with all the trees down and the wires hanging on almost every road in my area. Even a live on at the end of my road. It looks a bit like a war zone out here.
My sister in-law got power Tuesday night so I was finally able to take a shower Wednesday. Besides the **** baths with cold Spring water I had been taking up to that point I was feeling a bit grungy. Good news is it isn't cold enough to freeze the pipes so no damage that way.
We were able to get a small generator from my bro in-law to run a portable heater in the living room. It hit 60 indoors yesterday and quickly dropped to 55 by morning. It has been super cold for this time of year.
