Monitor 5Jr+ Series 2 compatibility Question

I was wondering if a Marantz 2238B would be a good fit, power wise, for a pair of Monitor 5Jr+ Series 2? Is 38 watts RMS going to be enough? Both the Marantz & Polks are going to be a surprise house warming gift and knowing her, while she enjoys her music, I doubt she'll be cranking it up. Any opinions, suggestions ?

That should sound fantastic. The Marantz sound and the smooth nature of the Monitor 5Jr should be great together.

I'm thinking I could use the earphone out plug on my transistor radio to run the Monitor 5Jr+'s I gave my son, although we are amping them with a 150wpc NAD. 38wpc should do just fine.

Since they are Series 2, they should have the SL-2500.

The 5 Jr+s are 90 dB per watt, extremely efficient. I ran them on a 15 wpc Fisher integrated tube and they sounded beautiful. I also ran with a Marantz 2230, which has less power and sounded excellent! Plenty of power

What kind of shape is that 2238 in?

    Hey Carl,

I'll be picking up the Marantz tomorrow and should know better exterior wise what shape it's in. Then I'll have the insides looked at. It hasn't been used in quite awhile and has been sitting at her parents home. If you want I can bring it with me when we meet up hope? I know you like your marantz gear.

Thanks to everyone who has given their thoughts and opinions. It's good to know that this will be a good pairing and hopefully she'll really enjoy it.
