Memory question for Athlon XP PC rebuild.

I have 2x 256mb pc2700 DDR (and 2x 128mb chips)
Do I need to add a 512 DDR in the middle for this to work properly.?
Or is that only for dual channel memory support only.(And did these systems even support dual channel memory at that time.)

    Can you find your motherboards manual? It's been awhile for me, but my last build was an AMD athlon setup on an ASUS MB. You'll have to see what the MB and associated BIOS will support.

    IIRC, my Asus only supported DIMM memory--but I could be wrong on that point.

    No mobo yet.Ive been offered some from a few polkies and am waiting to here back from nadams about a GA-7VAX he offered.Most of the boards support up 3 gigs but I know winXP home only supports 2.5 or something like that.I figure 1 gig should be enough for that era PC
