RTA 11t
I have owned a set of these since 1988. Most amps I have used were adjustable to 6 or even 4 ohms and since these speakers are rated as 6 ohm speakers, it seemed the safe thing to do. My other speakers are also Polks but are all rated at 8 ohms.
I am purchasing a YAMAHA RX-A800 receiver rated at 8 or 6 ohm. My questions is, will it hurt the amp if I run it at the 8 ohm setting with my 6 ohm Polks? Or should I sacrifice some wattage and set the receiver to 6 ohms. The Yamaha manual just states that at the 6 ohm setting, 4 ohm speakers can be used as the main speakers. But it doesn't say anything about using anything but 8 ohm speakers on the 8 ohm setting. I have read a few forums and most say that driving 6 ohm speakers at the 8 ohm setting won't hurt the amp, but I thought I would ask some Polk owners for advise.
Thanks

I have run my RTA 8Ts with my Pioneer AVR without switching it to 6 ohms. Ran it for quite some time and although it got a little warmer than usual, it worked and sounded fine.

Thanks deronb1, it's what I thought but always leery. I found a web page that says even when running 4 ohm speakers you should keep your receiver set on 8 ohms. It's a very good read....
