Anybody within driving distance of DC have a W4S DAC-2???

I'm on a DAC hunting mission. I have tried many, and I'm getting close.

I need to hear my current solution, which is an Audio GD Digital Interface (USB to SPDIF converter) plus an Audio GD NFB-7 (DAC) compared head-to-head against the W4S DAC-2.

Here are the comparisons I'm interested in:

1) Audio GD DI and NFB-7 combo vs. W4S, just for USB. This would be done by using (2) computers playing identical files simultaneously, with each computer connected to each of the systems via USB, and each system connected to different inputs on the same preamp, and then switching between inputs via the preamp's remote.

2) Audio GD NFB-7 vs. W4S just for SPDIF. This would be done by using a transport with (2) SPDIF outs, running one to each DAC, and then running the DACs to a different input on the same preamp, and switching between inputs via the preamp's remote.

3) The W4S's USB input vs. the Audio GD Digital Interface -> W4S SPDIF input. This would be done by having one computer outputting directly to the W4S via USB, and another computer playing the same file outputting to the DI via USB, and then the DI outputting via SPDIF to the W4S, and then switching between inputs with the W4S's remote.

If anyone is interested in hearing this shootout firsthand, and within a couple hours of DC, I'll come to you, and bring whatever gear is necessary, or you are welcome to come here.

I am trying to get every piece in my two-channel setup to be "done", and this is an important step.

I'm free all weekend, including tomorrow.

I'll buy a DAC-2 to try on my own down the road if I have to, but I'd really rather not have to.

Cheers,

Ben
