    Hello,
A single cable is fine, the use of a Y cable isn't necessary.

I would begin with a setting of 80Hz for the low pass setting and see how that sounds. The goal is to have a smooth blending of the two main speakers and the sub and that crossover frequency should work. Yes, the low pass filter, on the sub, should be at the highest setting to avoid "double filtering" caused by the receiver's low pass and the sub's overlapping. Once you've listened to the system for a few days try setting the receiver's sub-out to 100Hz to see how that sounds. Also try 60Hz as a setting. The more you listen to your system the more information you can glean from it.
    Enjoy!

The problem I have is that my reciever does not have x-over setting for the sub. Only for the other speakers. Thats why im wondering if I need to set it on the sub itself or max it out and set with sub volume control.
The x-settings i have as of now is.

    FRONT ATI5s X-OVER 70
    Center CS1 100
    REAR MONITOR 50s 90

In that case, it is probably best to use the variable low pass filter, on the sub, to set the upper frequencies to around 70/80Hz. Here again slight changes in the sub's filter setting can be done after a little time has passed listening.

I'm a little confused at this point. Either set the Sony to 80Hz and advance the Polk to the maximum setting. Or, leave the Sony set at the maximum and set the Polk to 80Hz. Either way is fine and neither method requires a Y cable, the sub's amplifier only needs one incoming signal.
    Regards, Ken

Sorry 4 the confusion. This is exactly what the manual for my reciever says:

    SW L.P.F. setting

Lets you set the low pass filter of the
subwoofer when multi channel Linear PCM
signals are input via an HDMI connection. Set
the SW L.P.F. if your connected
subwoofers crossover frequency do not have
    low pass filter.
    L.P.F. ON
The low pass filter of the subwoofers cut off
frequency is set to 120 Hz.
    L.P.F. OFF
The low pass filter of the subwoofer is
    turned off

I can understand the confusion. I interpret those instructions to mean the low pass filter can be turned on or off, but not adjusted. It seems to be set at 120Hz, usually a setting when using smaller "satellite" type speakers. In that case turn it "off" and use the Polk's low pass filter, which is adjustable, to get 80Hz and below from the sub. You should be fine as frog hair! Good as gold! Happy as a clam!
    Cheers, Ken
