Surrounds - Do I need to upgrade to FXI-A4/6?

Hi,

I currently have the following setup:
Rti-A5 fronts
Csi-A6 centre
Rti-A1 as surround speakers

My room is set up so that there are 2 rows of couches, 1 behind the other. Let's call them the front couch and the back couch.

The font couch is my main listening couch. The back couch is a few inches away from the back wall.
Currently, the Rti-A1's are mounted on that back wall.
As the front couch is my main listening position, I level calibrated the Rti-A1s from the front couch.

I however have 2 problems with this setup:
1) I hear almost NO surround effect from the front couch.
2) From the back couch, as you are only inches away from either the left or right Rti-A1, the speaker is in your face, and has too MUCH sound.

So I was thinking, would the FXi-A range be able to solve either one of the above 2 problem, or even both? Would it be worth trying to sell the A1s and get the FXi-As?

The other alternative I was thinking is to mount the A1s on the side, centred between the 2 couches. IE- they will be slightly infront on the back row crowd (on the side) and slightly behind the front row crowd (on the side).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Center: Polk Audio Csi-A6

I don't know if it would help your particular problem but the fxi's are a real nice surround speaker. They are suppose to make for a larger " sweet spot" so I would try them out.

I would try running a 7.1 setup you probably will get better overall sound with that type of setup. I have not heard the fxi's but everyone does seem to like their performance. You might also want to looking to getting a seperate amp to help run your speakers if you go 7.1. Good luck.

Yea but if he isnt properly hearing the side surrounds he still wont properly hear them running a 7.1 setup. More speakers probably isnt the answer.

I would say it is a setup problem. Try moving the book shelfs to the sides. Kind of inbetween the rows. That way it will be slightly behind the first row and slighly ahead of the second row.
