Need more than your current speakers for a recommendation. % music vs HT, room size, listening habits (wanna go BOOM or pressurize the room) and most importantly budget. I'm of the camp of getting the biggest, baddest sub you can afford. Upgadis is a cruel ****!

People on avsforum recommended VTF-2 MK3 HSU. Is there huge difference between this and DSWPRo 660? Thanks

I use the same Polk's plus FXi A6's (the rig is strictly for HT) with the DSW Pro 660wi.......love it. I've no experience with the HSU.

With your setup i would go with the DSW series. I agree with Ken get the best sub you can afford because you will want to upgrade later. I think either the dsw550 or 660 should be good for you.

I guess I would go with 660 since it is more affordable since HSU is now 550+63 s/h. I can get 660 for $349 at newegg sales. Thanks

For H/T the Hsu would be better as it punches lower overall. With the polk you will miss some of the lower tones altogether if they are present in the soundtracks.......which more movies seem to have now with the newer formats. 25 Htz range and above they would be more comparable, but then again a Sub is all about producing the lower tones overall for the best intended impact. If you can take more time, and save a little more, it may be worth it in the end to go Hsu. You can also find a lot of quality Subs on line at places like Audiogon for reduced prices. Just another option to consider.

Yes, I can also say that SVS Subs are great. I use mine for almost 100% H/T and they go real low with power.

jbooker82: I have noticed in your profile that you have 660, what do you think? How about lows other people are talking about. Do you miss anything by having 660 and wish for a better sub i.e., svs, hsu, epic etc...Thanks

There is always the drive to get bigger and better. It just depends on what your budget is. I would love to have a SVS PB13 Ultra, or a JL Gotham. You get a really good sub for your money when you buy a DSW Pro 660WI for $349. Now if your looking to buy it at the $600 retail price then you really should look around. How much of a difference there is you really dont know until you have tried both of them in your normal listening environment.

I originaly started out with a DSW Pro 550WI. I had it for 8 months and upgraded to a 660, and was happy I did. It plays a little lower and has more of an impact feel.

Set your budget and find the best sub that is within it.

I think you are right, there is no end in terms of how much you want to spend on these things speakers, amp, receivers but I have to see my budget as well. At newegg it is 349 and no shipping. while for these other companies you have to pay 60 to 70 in shipping another cost. currently, I am using energy take classic 5.1. I am hoping polk 660 sub would be better than energy sub came with energy take classic 5.1, and I like it.

Well it looks like your current sub has a -3db point of 33 hz so the 660WI will play lower. Stepping up from a Home Theater in a Box setup you will notice a very significant improvement.

Your current sub is a 200 watt 8" driver, it should be a night and day difference.

The point is...... you won't know you missed anything if a particular Sub dosn't go low enough to produce the intended signal. It may be in the soundtrack to add that extra impact, but if the Sub dosn't go low enough it won't play it. That can be a good thing also, as you won't know you are missing anything.

Thanks guys for all of your help. I am going with Polk 660. One other reason is that I am from Canada/Vancouver and from warranty point of view I can send to a local Polk repair shop, while for other brands I have to ship US and gonna cost me around $160...

Good Choice. But thought I would let you know that SVS Subs can be purchased in Canada from Sonic Boom Audio. They are in Ontario and shipping is fast ( Thats where I had mine shipped from to Nova Scotia ). They also have the full warranty with these subs. A heads up in case you didn't realize SVS can be purchased in Canada......thats all. HSU has to ship from the USA though.
