Is a success.

The story: recently I bought a Denon DVD 2800 off Amazon that was apparently damaged during shipping (i.e. the Power board broke, I have started thread with pics) I got a refund for it and set out to make it work by soldering the connections together on the broken borad:eek:

I had my doubts as to whether or not I could do it but thanks to some encouragement from the good people on this forum I did. I had to move the solder around on the connection points several times before it actually worked but what I didn't know that this units on light only comes on when turned on (I thought it was a standby light that stayed on all the time.) It be up and runnin now and I don't think a Cd ever sounded so good:)

Since this is actually your first project you deserve to be congratulated. I presume you did glue/secure the damaged/broken board prior to soldering, right? I tried to enlarge the picture to check the quality of the soldering but as I enlarge the picture the quality of the visual degrades enough so I can not have good visual of the soldering work. However, just be careful of what I would call "ball type soldering (convex)", a quality solder joint should be/look the opposite and be concave from both sides of the lead. When soldering, you do not heat the the solder in order to melt it but ratter heating the pad and lead which in turn melts the solder. Doing so will allow you to do concave solder joints which should be "cold solder joint" free. Yet, as I pointed out impressive for your first attempt. Have you had the opportunity to try the visual portion of the board (TV as you pointed out)?

Oh! I forgot... Don't forget to clean the flux residue afterward as beleive it or not it can be conductive and create problems such as short(s)!

Keep up the good work!

    Wow. Congrats!

I remember the day you posted about the break in the board and that many here told you it was a write-off.

thank you, and yes I glued it from the other side so the glue wouldn't melt under the solder and the board pop open again. The solder to the furthest right was a ball type like you're talking about but the others, like in the very tight spaces, I got lucky and spread them out across the traces. Yeah I have it hooked up right now and it works fine, I got a little scare when the movie about to start it completely stopped but it was just a few finger prints, like I said they're my songs movies and gets finger prints on them. I can't say if this player is actually sharper picture-wise, it might be slightly, but I think the colors might be better than my other player.

Here's a picture of the board in the case. I used the flash on this one and it's a whole world better for zooming in. I might take another one of the job with the flash. I don't know why I didn't use it in the first place, the picture resolution is much better using it.

I'll leave it original size too lol this one is huge.
