Sad indeed. There was nothing he could do. I was watching when they crashed and there was no way to survive the way his car hit the wall. Prayer for his family tonight.

I love all forms of motorsports and i think we all tend to forget just how dangerous the sport is.
    May he Rest In Peace.

I was at Indy with my wife when he won the 2011 Indianapolis 500. Our seats were right there on pit road, so close that we could easily see everything, including the emotion of the day for the teams, their families and the drivers. Seeing the crash in turn 4 that gave Danny the win and the jubilation that swept through pit road as he won was a testament to the kind of man he was, as even teams that lost were happy to see him claim his second Indy. My wife and I feel his loss today even moreso because we watched his wife, his son, and the crew that brought that car to victory celebrate, and heard his words as he drank the milk, watched him "kiss the bricks"...

Thanks for the memories Dan, and for being a man of class in a sport that needs a few true gentlemen. May God bless your family in this time of loss.

I took my daughter to an autograph session back in 2007, in downtown Jackson (MI), before the IRL race that year at MIS.
There was a woman in the crowd who passed out from heat exhaustion, waiting in the long lines and Dan was the ONLY driver that walked out into the crowd to see how she was doing. He even stood by her and talked to her while a med crew was giving her treatment. He really was a good guy and will be missed.
    RIP Dan

I heard this morning on Sirius and literally cried in my car. What a tragic end for such a nice guy and great driver.

Godspeed Dan Wheldon. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and two children.
