Wireless speaks?
Can anyone suggest wireless speakers that don't sound awful?

Nope, Nil, Nada.
Why don't you go ahead and post the wiring dilemma you are facing, perhaps we can float some ideas/thoughts to get it worked out?

Well, it's not really a dilemma. It's more of a "I'm getting lazy in my old age".
I'd just like to bring a little music into the kitchen, and the run is outrageously long, and full of complicated twists and turns -- it makes for a good-looking room, but the wiring to get there will be murder.
...And, I suspect the wife will throttle me if I open up the walls any more in the kitchen. We just got it buttoned up and back to functionality. -
What style of house? There are a lot of attic, crawlspace, or baseboard options that aren't too tough.

Well, if you're willing to spend a bit and take some risks with possible interference you could always try to use a wireless Audio/Video transmitting system and a seperate amplifer...but thats just a thought. Hehe, if its old age/laziness you could always hire a local forum member or two...lolPolk CS245i Center

I've had this part of the house apart recently -- redid the whole kitchen -- and I know from being in the walls and under the floor that it'd be a huge pain to get through it all again.
I do have some really good wireless gear from the rock-and-roll days, as I think about it. Anyone recommend a powered speaker that isn't a million bucks? -
If you're really so hellbent on the idea...

Does Monster Cable still make that flat cable that can stick to a wall and can be painted?
If so, that might be worth a try. You can run it along a baseboard or up in the corner where the ceiling meets the wall. Then it is out of the way and fairly un-noticable. Since it can be painted, it can match any decor in the house. I don't know if it can be stained though. I did see someone pull off wooden base boards and slip the wire between the edge of the sheetrock and the floor and then nailed the baseboards back up. That was an idea.
You could also take the baseboards off and with a router, make a notch the length of the board glue the wire in with rubber cement so it doesn't come out when you are putting it back on, nail the base board back on and you won't see anything until it comes out of the wall to the speakers you are running. That would be a super-stealth install and if the wire did end up haing problems or get cut, it is a project to fix but not a massive undertaking like ripping a wall down.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I would just use a 900Mhz wireless audio system, then run that into any good set of powered speakers.
This one from USRobotics also includes a low power FM transmitter so you can tune it in on any FM radio within range.

There are plenty of other 900mhz wireless systems out there, do a Google search for "900mhz wireless audio" or so.
If you want video as well, you'll be looking for a 2.4Ghz product.- Sony 50"A3000 SXRD; Onkyo TX-SR 805
