New here with a pair of SDA-2A's

Hey forum

My name is Tom Wylde. I just purchased a set of SDA 2A's off eBay. It's taken me nearly 2 moonths to get the speakers and a replacement tweeter for a bad one that shipped with the pair of speakers.
The speakers are beautiful. A couple marks on the top of one, (but nothing I'm worried about not buffing out when I get a chance!)

The guy I bought these from shipped the replacement tweeters (he sent me 2, along with a spare woofer, should I need one) and they look almost NOTHING like the one in the speaker! I'm really tired of dealing with the guy-(he's a nice guy and all, but has some personal problems making it a royal PITA to get this done!) and don't want to bother the dude anymore.

2 questions... does anyone know where I can get an interconnect cable and a tweeter? The tweeters sent are solder-connect, as opposed to plug on, and Polk tweeters, but not for this set. Without an interconnect cable, should both tweeters (L+R) work?

Thanks much. Sorry I don't have numbers. I'll try to get a photo of the things he sent in the next day or so...
Again, thanks.
Tom

*BTW, can anyone point me to photos of Polk's vintage speakers? Maybe I can just find them and point them out...

that should help. I have these speakers and they are very nice! Sorry to hear about your trouble with the sale but poke around here for a while and you will find all you need. Make sure you have a common ground amp to run those when you get the interconnect cable (check ebay for the blade/blade cable)

    Good luck!

Also, I suggest getting the replacement tweeter from Polk directly, model RDO 194...Tell them you are a member and they will give you a discount. Otherwise, try ebay for the original SL2000 tweeter.

I might have one I could sell you if you cant find any

I also have some sl2000's around (4) that I just removed from my 1C's. Haven't gotten around to putting them in the Flea Market but probably will in the next couple days. Welcome to the Forum. Do your speakers look like these?

    Welcome to Club Polk!

I think the 6.5" drivers in your speaker should all be MW6510's and Polk generally clearly marked that on the back of the magnet. I also believe some very late SDA 2A's might have had the MW6503/MW6511 combination use in the SDA 2B.

The stock tweeters that came in that model were definitely SL2000's and most replace those with the drop-in RDO194-1 available from Polk for $48 each if you mention you are a member of Club Polk. You should replace both for best results and can sell the good SL2000 you have here after you reach 100 posts.

If you are planning to do any work to the crossovers (replacing old capacitors and resistors), that crossover can be modified to accept the RDO198-1 with the addition of a 5.8uf bypass capacitor to the circuit.

Uumm, 2A's (and 2B's) have a single tweeter, 1 each 6.5" dimensional, 1 each 6.5" stereo and 1each 12" passive in each cabinet.

    . . . without an interconnect cable, should both tweeters (L+R) work? . . .

If you truly have 2A's, there is one tweeter (top center) per cabinet.

The interconnect cable allows the 2 outermost 6.5" dimensional drivers to become active. Both tweeters and both innermost 6.5" drivers should definitely work all of the time, whether the SDA interconnect is in place or not.
