First of all I would like to thank everyone who contributes to this blog. You all have helped me a lot. Remember back in the day when ol school speaker wire had one side copper and other side silver colored wire? What was that other wire made from and if I picked up some twelve or ten gauge speaker wire with one side copper and other side silver colored wire. Is it ok to use or should I run? Also if copper sides showing some green does that affect performance? As always thanks,Darryl

Green is Not good. I bought some wire and it has green too, ICK!
I changed it out ASAP. That is corrosion and that makes for a bad connection.
Get some good quality wire that doesn't have corrosion and is a decent gauge and you should be fine.
The lower the gauge, the better.
Now get out the wallet cause you are about to get advice on how to spend your money on speaker wire. -

Agreed. I prettied up some Canare 4S11 with techflex and cable pants and terminated it with banana plugs. Made for a pretty awesome set of wires! I would definitely recommend this cable, finished or unfinished. The individual strands of copper are very sturdy. My Stereo: Tannoy D100s, Yaqin MC-100B, VPI Traveler, Dynavector 10x5 MC Phono Cartridge, heavily modified Yaqin MS-22B phono preamp, TEAC EQA-20 equalizer, Belkin PureAV PF30 Power Conditioner, Canare 4s11 speaker cables, Custom dust cover from DigitalDeckCovers

Another vote for the Canare, I swapped it out over some older monster cable, made an improvement to my ears. FWIW. - bluejeanscable.com
