I just bought 2 new Craftsman 22" blades, they are the red color "premium" ones....they came shrink-wrapped.
They do not seem overly sharp out of the package.....dumb q - am I supposed to sharpen these on a bench grinder / w/ a file? I am guessing not......

My guess would be NO as well. I think the majority of people would not know how to sharpen a blade. Give them a call or search on-line.Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

The grass needs to be cut,so its going as-is. I will see what happens....thx

I'm thinking NO also. Put one of them on and see how it cuts.

Mower blades are not supposed to be razor sharp. They dull very quickly and will not cut grass as much as beat the grass into pieces. Then you get grass that looks like you were cutting it with your teeth. It looks like hell and isn't any good for you lawn.
Also, if they are mulching blades then they certainly shouldn't be razor sharp or they won't mulch as much as wad up shredded grass pulp.
The blades should be already sharp out of the package. There is nothing you need to do to them except bolt them on and go.
Sharpening yourself can be done. It takes forever with a file. A bench grinder is the best way to do it. However, you can't just grind away and be done with it. Blades have to be balanced otherwise they will destroy your engine with unnecessary stress on the output shaft.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
Yes, ma'am. I've killed Doyle Hargraves with a lawnmower blade. Yes, ma'am, I'm right sure of it. I hit him two good whacks in the head with it. That second one just plum near cut his head in two... It's a lil' ol' white house on the corner of Vine Street and some other street. There's a pick-up truck out front that says "Doyle Hargraves Construction" on it. Doyle said besides sending the police, you might wanna send an ambulance or a "hearst". I'll be sitting here, waiting on ye.If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.
