Polk LSi 9 vs Infinity Overture 1
I've been eyeing the lsi9 for a long time now, but the problem is no local store carry it for me to try. Main reason is because of the tweeter that I keep reading about that also in speakers up to $20k, so it must be that good.
Right now I am using an Overture 1 bookshelf, about the same size and weight as the Lsi9, but with 2 4" mid and a 150W 8" Sub built-in. I am happy with the mid and bass. I don't expect Lsi9 will provide this much bass.
Speakers are about 5' apart on my computer desk and 2.5' from my ears. are Lsi9s good as computer speakers?
Power comes from Denon AVR 3806 or HK PA5800 100WPC x5 amp, so no issue here. the HK can easily do 4 ohms and the Overture 1 uses even less power
Lsi9 and Overture 1 have about the same retail price, $1k.
What do you think? because if I buy it from Polk on Ebay, there is no return, in case I won't like it.

I dont know about no returns, Also, if your happy with what you have, why go for the LSI9,s??Not an Audiophile, just a dude who loves music, and decent gear to hear it with.

because I am keep reading on how terrific the tweeters in the lsi9s are. In fact, that is the only reason why I am considering lsi9s.
anyone in here has a chance to compare Lsi vs Overture series? especially regarding the tweeters. -
I think you will like the LSi's even more and I bet they put out as much bass or more. Other than the hassle of shipping if you find the LSi's aren't to your liking you can flip them pretty easily. No one in this hobby can really tell you for sure if you are going to like something. You really need to try things out if at all possible. In this case buy them and try them.

LSi 9 refurbs on Polks site are actually running 550 right now. I think now's the time to hop on it, unless you can get your ears on the LSiM 703's floating around on the forum (right now one set is headed to leyroyjr1, and the other is at Vintage hi-fi in pittsburg)"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." The 9's put out a surprising amount of bass. They also do very well with a good high current amp.
You should have no issue getting a pair 9's and a Parasound HCA 1500A for under $1,000. -
Also remember a very good pair of stands make a huge difference and can run in the $250+ range. I think a lot of people who run bookies overlook the extra cost of a really worthy set of speaker stands.

I am not worrying about stands because they have the same size, almost. and I'll be using a 1ft stand on my computer desk to bring the tweeters to ears level.
About power, the HK PA5800 is a very high current amp, 65 amps, I believe.
about bass, kinda hard to believe that Lsi9s will put out as much bass as 2 150w 8" subs.
about price, 500-600 is my budget and speakers must be new condition. so far, lsi9 seems to be the only one. I bought some speakers from Polk on Ebay and everything look brand new.
I am concerning that this may or may not be a step up, rather than a side way move. -
Try it and see as far as bass. So the Infinities are powered and have built in subs in each enclosure? Having them on a desk top is a waste. My brother did that for awhile, now he runs them on stands at a proper distance. No comparison. But I also understand we all have to do whatever with what we have.
I just looked those up, the 9's definitely don't look so cheesy. How on earth they get any kind of deep, clean bass out of that tiny enclosure is beyond me? Just get the 9's and listen for yourself."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. There was a pair of the Overture 1's pretty local to me earlier this year for $300 with stands. I didn't give them a 2nd look, thought they were some of the later model junk they made.--Gary--
