For your consideration is my Odyssey Stratos Plus. This is the upgraded version with the red boardand 120,000uf capacitance. Additionally this was built in an upgraded chassis that is ready to be upgraded to the dual-mono monster ($80 upgrade). This means there are two power inputs and 2 power switches. You dont need to do the upgrade (it works perfectly as-is) but you won't have to pay for a new chassis if you choose to upgrade.
Additionally, you will be the 2nd registered owner which means that you will have 19 YEARS left on its 20 year WARRANTY! which includes free check-ups.
Price paid 14 months ago was $1520 plus shipping.
ASKING $800 OBO
keep in mind this thing is HEAVY and shipping will likely be >$50
Thanks!!!
here are the stats:
$1,520 USD
2 x 150 Watts RMS @ 8 Ohms
2 Ohm load stable
Class A/AB
2 - 400,000 Hz frequency range

45 amps current delivery
<0.04% THD (not audible)
>500 continuous damping factor
Input impedance 22K ohms
DC offset <1 mV
RCA & XLR (bridged) inputs
400 VA Plitron transformer
Sanken Epitaxial Planar Transistors 2SA1216 & 2SC2922
Anti vibration dual thickness PCB
Power consumption when idle ?30Watts

Why wasn't this for sale two months ago? I would have bought it in a heartbeat. And I'm local. What's replacing it?

How would this compare to the Adcom 5802?

Right now I'm running a Sunfire Cinema Signature II if you can believe it. The multichannel amp makes it easy for my bi-amp setup and actually sounds quite good. At any rate, I needed to clear up some space and consolidate and so here we are.
This Stratos is impressive though. really impressive. If I weren't bi-amping It would be staying on my rack
but who knows if it doesn't sell then maybe ill stick it on my HT setup for S&G.
So what did you upgrade to?design is where science and art break even. -
Lee, I'm sorry I don't have any experience with the 5802.
I have experience with the Nelson Pass 555 but I am not sure the two are even close to parity. The 5802 appears to be quite a powerhouse.
The stratos is certainly on a completely other level than the 555. far more resolving. No shard-like treble, gorgeous supple midrange, tight deep bass. Super dynamic. I loved this amp on orchestral pieces. It seemed like there was no bottom of the well, so to speak. And with 120,000uf of capacitance it should. it really is a very smooth amp.
It's as good of an amp as I've had in my system. Its authoritative, precise, and a joy to listen to. Wish I could give you a direct comparison, but I wouldn't be surprised if I greatly preferred the odyssey, based on Adcom's tonal proclivities. And don't get me wrong, I really enjoy several of Adcom's amps, they just have a specific sound to them.design is where science and art break even. -
