Picked this up from bro-in-law who said it's broke.
When I power it up an LED lights up under the word "surround" on the front panel, but no other lights come up. Since it's 100wpc in stereo mode I was thinking of using it as an amp for my patio speakers. Is it worth the diagnostic bench fee? Thing is pretty heavy and looks solid but I hate throwing things like this in the trash.

Hmmm.... I don't know a lot about that unit, but my STR-DE635 had a similar issue a looong time ago, turns out I had to replace the internal fuses, quick and easy fix. Later in its life (about 2 years ago) it went into PROTECT mode, and wouldn't come out of it, so I stuck it in the pile when I got my Onkyo, about 8 or so months ago I said I need to hook it up and if doesn't work then off to the trash, to my suprise it popped right on and is still working to this day. I'd open it up and check the fuses, and also check online for a factory reset option. Good luck!
