Usher CP-777 vs. Thiel 2.4

I've been loving my 3.6's, but I want to try out some good cones.
Anybody have any impressions of the Thiel 2.4's or Usher CP-777's? They'd cost about the same. The Ushers are the first version, before they started using the beryllium tweet.

How about impressions of either Usher or Thiel in general?
The CP-777's are the smallest of Usher's Dancer series, but I've never hard any Usher's.

I own a small pair of Thiels and really like them. They are very coherent. However just don't have the low end like some other speakers do. But when I first heard them I picked them up and really enjoy them. I would still be tempted to get another set of Thiels down the road to compare and see.
A guy local to me just got Usher BE10's. He was using Gallo's before and claims the usher's are a lot better overall. I have not had a chance to listen to usher's besides at a dealer so I can't comment on them. There was another guy pretty local to me as well that used to run Usher BE10's but I think he sold them for another set of Usher's but can't recall what... -

The Thiels however were HEAVEN. you want to have warm sounding gear with them though as they can be a little lean(I hate the word bright). They are also VERY analytical but with all that said, I LOVE the Theil sound. When I heard them, the associated gear was Audio Research LS-2B, McCormack DNA-1, Creek CDP (model number unknown) and Theta Pro-Basic DAC.2-channelBelles 22A Pre, Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 2, Marantz SA8005, Pro-Ject RPM-10 Turntable, Pro-Ject Phono Box DS3B, Polk Audio Legend L800's, AudioQuest Cable throughout. -

Cool. Yea, it seems that these particular Ushers were never offered in the US, or any of North America for that matter. Their rareness is exciting because I'd be one of only a few poeple in the country to own them, but on the other hand it gives me pause that US dealers have chosen not to sell them, though I don't know if the US dealers chose not to offer them or if Usher chose not to let the US dealers offer them. They are fairly popular in Asia and some of Europe, and they're the only Usher with that concave-style D-Apolito design. Unfortunately, I won't be able to listen before buying.
I will be able to listen to the Thiels. I like that they get referred to as analyitical; I'm hoping that they'll be a unique compromise of the qualities of the SDA's and Magnepans that I like.
That particular Usher is so cool looking though!:biggrin:
Another Usher option would be to get the smaller and cheaper BE-718's, and then have money left over to add a nice pair of stereo subs. I would love to get my ears on the BE-10's. I would think that the guy who sold them moved to the BE-20's, as that's the only way upward in Usher's line; I guess he could have been downgrading though.

What Thiels are you running?
I have a pair of CS2. They are some pretty old Thiels but I picked them up for cheap and they sound great IMO. I've heard CS7.2s at a dealer who had them for a trade and they were awesome sounding there but once again a dealer and did not have my own stuff.
I'm not 100% sure if the guy did go with the BE20's or what he ended up with. It was about 2 years ago IIRC and I thought he was moving up the line and not down but I could be mistaken.
I think the thiel are really a coherent sound. They do have some top end to them thats for sure, a lot more compared to my Amazings or SDA SRS. They don't have the bottom end like the others either but again I don't expect them to. They still have a good sound all their own. They image really well and just are fun. Only deal with mine is the speaker terminals are on the bottom of the speaker and are a pain to set up sometimes. -

sweet. Thanks for the info! I'll have to see if I can get my ears on some of the other line up. I really dig Thiel's as I think they just sound awesome and for what I paid for the 2's a keeper easily. I don't know of many people that run Thiel's but I'm going to see what I can find.
My 2's are a little beat up but nothing major. I think its also cool how Thiel will do the restoration program on their site. However for me to do a total restore it would be 875-1000 for the work and seeing I only paid like 125.00 for the speakers it seems hard to justify the cost but I think that is very cool they will still service all their speakers to date and take care of them.
