Very new to all of this and was hoping to get some much needed input .
Just opened my psw505 and attempted to hook it up and i am getting nothing.

my receiver is the Yamaha rx-v371
the back has a female port that says "subwoofer" and iv plugged that into the back of the sub

Is the sub plugged in?

Yes,you have to most likely mess with the settings in your receiver and make sure that subwoofer is turned to "yes". Receivers varry on how they do this, you may or may not be able to run it in 2 channel with a subwoofer but for Dolby digital, you need to set that up in the receivers menu. Also, where in the back of the sub did you plug the cable into ?HT SYSTEM-
Sony 850c 4k
Pioneer elite vhx 21
Sony 4k BRP
SVS SB-2000
Polk Sig. 20's
Polk FX500 surrounds
Cables-
Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's

I have this same problem, Sony DH810 reciever. Got moster sub from UPS (amazon.com), open it, unplugged my Klipsch 6.5", put this bad boy in the same place, same connection, nothing changed and 0 sound at 1/2 gain and cut off at 90. Had to turn the reciever from -2db to +10 db and the gain all the way up on the sub just to get some bass. Something is wrong with the input on this (these) subs in ref to how they act with certain recievers.
My other sub would be way 2 loud at full volume and its 100w rms, this thing is 300w rms. Phase, all that LFE blabla shouldnt matter because I unplugged a klipsch sub and plugged this one it. Not happy at all.
If you search google you will find a few people with this problem. Some say if you take an ipod wiht a 1/4" to 2 male rca outs and plug directly into the sub you will get loud bass (as a test). I will try that when I get off work but I need to connect this to my reciever not an ipod. I also dont need to run speaker level inputs to this sub (who does that) being my speakers are mounted on the wall.
