Recapping Question

I am going to recap a 7c and wondered if there is a good mid priced capacitor or if I could afford one expensive one per speaker, which brand and which capacitor would best be served by an upgrade over a mid priced capacitor.

Do you read the forum at all?

Not the response I was seeking. I know Solen and Mills, however are there cheaper caps that are sonically equal? Say, Dayton metal 1%? -

The ERSE Pulse X are a good budget alternative to the Dayton's and Solen's.http://meniscusaudio.com/capacitors-pulsex-polypropylene-c-101_104.html

You don't want to go too much cheaper than Solen, but I wouldn't use Solen in the high pass circuit (tweeter) just in the low pass shunt circuit.
If it were me, or rather what I did, is I used Clarity PX caps for the tweeter and Solen caps for the woofer (shunt) and Mills resistors in my 5B's. I had Solens in the high pass and they were a little too forward and "shouty". Clarity PX are really nice inexpensive caps. I like them better than Dayton.
Again, I've stated this alot and even have an entire thread on it. That's why I get a little frustrated when people ask the same general question over and over. It seems like they don't want to take the effort to research what they are doing.

The Erse is also a good suggestion for the low pass as is AXON or even Dayton for the low pass."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Plus, I have no idea about your budget or what you mean by "mid-priced". I assume you mean something inbetween Sonicaps and cheap electrolytics, but I don't know because you didn't really specify.

Come on Brock, didn't you get the memo about how we are suppose to read minds now!?!Political Correctness'.........defined

I used Sonicaps in my 7s. They're a little costly but they sound fine. I don't know how well you hear "differences" in sound and Dayton caps have a good reputation every place but here. Clarity caps are reasonable in cost. IIRC the Sonicaps and Mills resistors cost me just under $90 for both speakers. I think I'd go with Clarity caps.
The search function here is not very good in my opinion but you just need to keep trying. There are more discussions here about capacitors than you could read in a week but you will find that most of them deteriorate into BS so you have to sift through all that to find what you're looking for. Searching may spare you the wrath that befalls all non searchers!:razz:TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE. -
