I have a pair of rti a1 connected to vintage yamaha ax500 which i believe 85w + 85w of power. are my speakers safe? i started to hear some cracking sounds lately but there are days i dont hear them. i'm planning to replace them with a3's, will it be perfect match for my vintage yamaha receiver?

Yes, your Yamaha can drive those speakers, but getting cracking isnt ever good. Check your wiring and then see if its the speakers or the AVR thats causing it. Are you hearing them while listening to vinyl or something else?"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I use to listen it to a cd player and pc with an external dac. the cable wiring seems to be fine but i notice at first i use i think its a 14' gauge wire and i replace it with much thicker 12" i think(sorry i forgot the measure).then the cracking seems to be lessen.even when theres no source connected or power on the cracking appear, i tried turning all the knobs in my receiver no cracking appear it seems it only appears while listening or in stable mode.sorry for my english. -
Keep the volume at a reasonable level first off and get the yammie checked out. Anything vintage will need some work done to it and the sound your hearing is most likely the tell tale sign of that. Maybe time for a new receiver.HT SYSTEM-

Out of curiosity, is your receiver plugged in to the same circuit as any fluorescent lights?
If not or on its own circuit. Most certain that the receive probably needs to be cleaned and serviced. -

my avr and yamaha stereo receiver are place in a single rack with the same source of circuit. -

Bingo!
I have the same issue as you with my kitchen lights. They are on the same circuit as the outlet where my gear is plugged in to. I hate it and have plans in place to update this within the next month. I advise you to plug in that old Yammy to a different circuit. I bet the noise will be gone. It's the ballasts in those lights that are the cause of this. For me, I only get the noise through my carver even when it's powered down. However my Pioneer Elite AVR did not reproduce this issue. However, the circuit was never as stressed until i introduced more gear and more power.
